The Arboretum is awesome.  One of the few parks around here you can hike that has some elevation (Theodore Roosevelt is another one).

This weekend would be an awesome time to check out the park (first time and returning visitors alike):  Their second annual plein air painting event.

I went last year... very nice place and still plenty to be done.  A very good place to learn the various native plant names as most are well marked including descriptions.

This is a really cool park - my wife and I have spent several afternoons walking our dog there. The best part is everytime we've gone, we've had the place practically to ourselves. I don't think anybody realizes it's back there.

Driving Instructions/Street Map
From Regency Area

Travel east on Monument Road from Regency area.
Pass under 9A.
Take a left on Millcoe Road.
Turn right into the Arboretum parking area.
From 9A

Exit east on Monument Road
Take a left on Millcoe Road.
Turn right into the Arboretum parking area.
From East Arlington

Travel west on Monument Road toward Regency.
Take a right on Millcoe Road before the 9A overpass.
Turn right into the Arboretum parking area.
Days and Hours of Operation
Open to the public 7 days a week from 8 am to 5 pm (8 am to 7 pm during daylight savings time). Entry gates are locked promptly at closing so plan your visit so that you exit the Arboretum prior to closing.

I've been several times...helped blaze a trail twice and do a clean-up project another time...great place!

Great article.  This site has been on my list of places to visit in Jax since it opened a few years back.  I'm going to have to elevate it to a higher priority on my to-do-list.
