Now that the Manning/Tebow issue is behind us, anyone going to the home opener of the Arena Champion Sharks tomorrow night and watch them raise the championship banner high into the rafters? I'll be there with my season ticket in hand in section 105, Row W. See, I can afford season tickets to the Sharks. But season tix to the Jags, I'm afraid, are out of reach for me. In fact my season tickets for the Sharks equal maybe 3 Jaguar games, if I sit in the nosebleed section.
Go SHARKS!

It's not looking good right now with the Sharks losing 27-14 to the GA Force. Hopefully the champs can get back into the game.

I-10east

Damn, the Force scored again. :(

I'm continuing the Sharks talk on the Sharks thread. I'm shocked about this anti-Jaguars crap that the Sharks are partaking in; The Sharks mascot held up a sign that said 'Sharks 1 Team Teal 0' I'm no longer gonna be a Sharks fan because of this. Although the Sharks love indulging in the whole 'anti-Jag' crap, I predict that the Sharks fan support will continue to be successful with plenty of anti-Jaguar college redneck types in this city. Well, they lost this former Sharks fan. BTW, they lost 41-69.

No need for hem to take on the NFL team, they'll lose

We were there; it was a pretty painful game to watch.  Hopefully the Sharks remember they're the champions soon.  (Although I understand they won away last week at Kansas City.)

There are plenty of people who are football fans and aren't Jaguars fans - and aren't rednecks. I was always opposed to the city's attempts to lure a professional football team with our tax money and have never embraced the Jaguars. I don't really consider myself 'anti-Jaguars' anymore, as I left Jacksonville and figure it's no longer my problem.

I remember voting for Harry Reagan b/c he was the only guy in local gov't who seemed to voice concerns about giving away so much public money for private gain.

No doubt. Alot of Sharks fans enjoy the arena 'basketball style' entertainment. Remember, I didn't say the all are anti-Jag rednecks.

What are your negative impact concerns with the Jags being in town? Even if you're not a football fan, don't you understand the overwhelming positives concerning having the NFL here? Charities, natl' exposure, etc. Sounds like you're one of those people that yearns for the old school, no-name backwater Jax; Ya know, the one that had the stank paper mills, Mathews toll etc.

Thanks for the personal attacks. I appreciate it.

I'm not going to get into a bun fight over the whole Jaguars thing. My point was simply that not everyone supports the idea of an NFL team (or more accurately, the deal the city gave them in order to lure them) and not everyone who isn't a fan of the Jaguars is a redneck (which was what I took from your original post).

But whatevs. I think you've shown me what I can expect from you, so I won't really bother pursuing it any further.

What personal attacks? Just because you like the old belching paper mills, the Mathews Bridge tolls, and most importantly no NFL team in town? C'mon, that was just 'playful banter' on my behalf. I'll use your quote that you said on the other thread. "I don't think you should be so thin-skinned about it".

The Jaguars would demolish the Sharks in a REAL football game.

Absolutely! And they'd also beat the Gators, Seminoles, Hurricanes and Bulldogs.

NFL football teams are bigger, stronger, faster and more sophisticated. It would never be a contest.

If the game were played on Everbank Field I would agree the Jags would win. But lets see how they would do indoors, with a field thats 85 feet wide and 50 yards long, where the ball is live off the net, where no punting or stunting is allowed, where the clock doesn't stop except in the last minute of each half, where they can only have 8 men on a side. I think the outcome would be much different. It is a different game. Thats why the Arena League is played in the spring. Its not meant to compete with the NFL. It never has and never will. But thats the point. But how many guys from the Arena League hone their skills and then move up to the pros. Just like in baseball. And Nascar and hockey and many other sports.

fsquid

I meant take on the NFL team by bashing them, etc.  Sharks need to realize they play a niche sport and market that and enjoy it.
