Quoteour stations don't have to be that elaborate
What I'm thinking, and sharing, is we are probably talking about a single RDC car train, maybe two, 160' train?  For a 200 or 300 foot platform? Why string 7 ugly bus shelters, trash cans and such along 300 feet when we could build one slightly larger shelter, give it a dash of style, and set out a couple of park benches for the sun worshipers? Also note the vending is INCLUDED in ONE BUILDING.[/color][/b]

No problem, I was just thinking we could get by with something cheap, but efficient, like these for most urban stops and call it day.

I think you guys are going to like what I'm cooking up...

I'll post some images tomorrow.

Here is what I have so far guys.

I was having a brain fart at the time I selected the site for the station ending up with a location that looks very feasible for an urban station that also allows space for a potential TOD.

This site is at the intersection of Roosevelt and Edgewood.  This station is a bit more complex than you guys might have been picturing, however, it is a goo example of what could become of a site like this.

Here is an aerial view showing the potential TOD site in blue.  Also notice the vicinity of the Edgewood shoping district and the three restaraunts within eyeshot.

Also, a sneak peak inside the train cars...

Please let me know what you think and don't be afraid to critique it.  Because I haven't had the chance to meet up with you all in a while, this is a great opportunity to give me all the input you can.

Excellent.  I have long touted this area as one that would really benefit from commuter rail, and seeing this development confirms it.  I think Edgewood/ Murray Hill would literally explode with growth if a station like this were to be built in the area.  If something like this were built by 2010 or 2011, I promise that i will move within three blocks of that station.

Looks fine to me.  If its not too much to ask, can you do two more?

1. One with a small Austin/Nashville type station (basically a shelter, with no air-conditioned space) that fits on the grass strip between the tracks and Plymouth Street.

2. One without a station that shows a two lane highway overpass (busway) between the tracks and Roosevelt instead.

Yeah, I'll see what I can throw together.  You are talking about the same intersection right?

Ocklawaha

Yes Jason, same location... BTW, FANTASTIC STUFF MAN! I heard through the grapevine that for fun you go out on the San Sebastian? Walking on Water? Incredible man... GREAT WORK.

I'd second Lakes ideas. Maybe that simple glass box I sent you with a flair of iron or some design...

For Rail Cars is there ANY images of the BUDD RDC available? That might be our car, at least for the first 20 years. The exact body style is the BUDD RDC-2, which has a small baggage door in one end that can be used for wheel chair access. Showing RDC's at the stations would be VERY close to what we are showing in a plan.

Jason, I only walk on water UNDER GROUND! hee hee.

Thanks for the input guys.  I'll see if I can find a model like the train Lake posted.  The shelter should be pretty simple to draw up.  I have a lot of good stuff to use from my bus stop drawings.  I'll also see what I can throw together on the busway passing through there.  There won't be a BRT stop at that location right?  Just passing through?

Jason, the train (vehicles) in the photos is called:

RDC - 1 (all coach version)

or

RDC - 2 (coach + baggage version = my choice as it works well for ADA)

built by Budd from 1950-1961

It stands for "Rail Diesel Car". So look for a model of "Rail Diesel Car, RDC-2" or some such combination of terms.

Lakelander, NOTE the New Mexico Rail Runner station you posted, THIS is what I mean by "concept only" in the design of simple shelters. These are just simple buildings, yet no mistake, they are from NEW MEXICO!
I think we can do the same with the four styles I tossed at the builders, they seem to think so too.

Correct, there's no BRT stop planned along Edgewood.

Thanks Ock.  Is there anything you don't know about trains?  :)

QuoteCorrect, there's no BRT stop planned along Edgewood.

Stupid

Its really an expressway for buses coming into town from the suburbs.  When it fails (and it will fail), at least the road could be converted into HOV lanes for auto traffic.  JTA's argument would be better off if they just admitted that and stop the insanity of trying to prove busways are an attractive alternative to rail.
