Friends of the Riverwalk (Tampa)

I've seen discussions before on MJ regarding honoring Jacksonville heroes / legends on the Riverwalk (i.e., a walk of fame or statute / bust type of thing). 

In case anybody missed it, Tampa's non-profit group "Friends of the Riverwalk" is getting it done on Florida's left coast.  Pretty cool.

TAMPA, Fla. (CBS Tampa) -  A stroll along downtown Riverwalk will soon turn into a walk through Tampa’s history as the city prepares to honor six historical figures with bust statues along the path.

Friends of the Riverwalk, a non-profit group, teamed up with the Tampa Bay History Center on the project.  The hope is that people will learn about Tampa’s historical people and events as they stroll down Riverwalk.

Friends of the Riverwalk’s Vice President Steve Anderson told the Tampa Tribune that the honorees’ names will be easily recognized by most people in the area.  The busts are expected to be placed along Riverwalk in six to nine months. Around $100,000 in private donations funded the busts.

Those chosen to be honored along the path will be announced on Tuesday at 3 p.m.  A group of nine historians were appointed the task of choosing the six persons to be honored.  The person must have been deceased for at least 15 years.
