I borrowed a goat to clear my brush. She has been a bit slower than I thought she would be........probably needed 4 goats to make more speedy progress, but I am impressed with the results!

Here is more about this environmentally friendly way to handle lawn care:

QuoteWeed Control with Goat Grazing

Our goats love nothing more than to eat, and luckily for them, that is what they do for a living.  We estimate that our entire herd can clear 1/2 acre in a day. Depending on the size of the property you want grazed, we can rent anywhere from 3 to 50 goats. The process starts with a free on-site consultation, where we evaluate how many goats you’ll need and how long it may take them to de-weed your yard. We also do a safety inspection to ensure that there’s nothing toxic for the goats to eat and that they can be securely fenced in on the property. After the consultation, we can give you an estimated timeline and price.

Bye-bye, Blackberry!

Goats can eat things we won’t even touch, including poison oak, blackberry and thistles. If you call us early in the season, when your problem weeds are just sprouting up, we can often reduce the following year’s population significantly by having the goats eat the flowers or seed heads before the weeds have a chance to reproduce.

Here’s one example of our goats taking on a backyard that had been lost to blackberry for some time:

No Fence? No Problem.

We use portable electric net fences to keep our goats securely fenced on otherwise open properties. The fence is 42″ tall and sends an electric pulse of 7,000 volts â€" take it from those of us who have accidentally touched it more times that we care to admit, it’s quite effective. This keeps our goats in and predators (dogs, coyotes, etc.) out.

The electric fence may be intimidating, but it is not dangerous to the animals or us. This has proven a very effective technique for rotational livestock grazing and non-lethal, non-invasive predator control. To respect our native wildlife, we move our fences at least once every three days so that any wild creatures we happen to separate from their homes with the fence aren’t displaced for long.

If we need to use an electric fence on your property, we will show you how to turn it on and off so you can stop in and visit with the goats.

The installation, set up and removal of the fence on your land will be taken care of by us, and since it requires quite a bit more work, we do charge a $250 set-up fee for jobs that require this.
