STORY #1

What do you do when you drive up to the same old burger joint and the service totally blows you away? Most people probably don't do a thing, but that just doesn't seem fair. A caseinpoint, Steak N Shake on Philips Highway, 8 pm, Friday night.

I went in tonight with my wife and 4 year old grandson 'Lil Robert' shortly after liberating a new Mac Book Pro from the Navy Exchange computer selection (Mac Book Air joins the family tomorrow LOL). Robert was in rare form, he had stomped on my toe, the very toe that is recovering from it's 3rd surgery and is now infected with three nasty bugs. He momentarily stole the shopping cart and tried to run down a blind shopper being assisted by a store clerk. He was shouting, back talking and doing all manner of things that a 4 year old typically does before getting his seat warmed.

Enter JAMIE and STEAK N SHAKE, Philips Highway. JAMIE is a stunningly beautiful young woman with a glowing bubbly personality. Likely too young to have a family of her own, she sized up the situation in an instant. Lil' Robert tossed his place mat at her, and she took in in stride. He was soon busy coloring a new placemat courtesy of our beaming server. A couple more slight fussy noises and JAMIE had him completely tamed. He has busy 'building' (destroying) one of their signature cardstock model cars whilst wearing a new Steak N Shake hat.

This event was shared with both the manager and with the corporate office comment line. If I was building a restaurant rather then a railroad, JAMIE would be stolen in a heartbeat. Unprecedented.

STORY #2

Story II involves the Chik Fillet on US 1 in St. Augustine. This is another of the 'same old stuff - different day' places, but are you in for a suprise. Holy happy cows 'Pistol Pete', this place is unreal. Teen and young 20 something servers falling over themselves to wait on you. Your food is ALWAYS delivered to the table, a regular crew works the tables to bring you any extras, or to add to your order. Game nights, scheduled children's events, all presented with the same zeal as the young man or woman that opens the front door for you and welcomes you in, or bids you farewell.  Yeah, you heard that right, a 'door man' at Chik Fillet!

If you haven't been there, watch the parking lot, it's impossible to back out of some of the spaces because the line of cars and people often wraps around the building. If your opening a small food service establishment, by all means, get there and take notes.

There you have it people, no complaints, just stellar service and I'm shouting about it.
