The tramways went way out in the rural GOLD country.

Deep in the Amazon, is the sprawling City of Manaus, Brazil. Since Brazil and Colombia share a connection via the great river, and through other connections, we grew to know and love several families from Manaus. Yesterday, until midnight, we were all downtown, about 10 of us, riding the Skyway and talking transit, Jacksonville Landing and such. Then the eldest member of the group brought up our fight to get Light Rail back in Jacksonville. He/they support us 100%. "What can we do to help?" I joked back to him, maybe locate some Tranvias (trolleys) for us! Suddenly the whole crew was chattering away about Manaus Tramways which were built by the UK with top dollar equipment. They quit operating in 1957. "Si, pero Doctor, you know we still have them no?" "Your Kidding me?" I shot back. "No, no, I haven't been up there in several years, but as far as we know, the City ran them into the barn (called the DEPOT) and locked the doors, they have armed police guarding the place!

Don't sweat the "armed police" thing y'all, they guard ice cream stands with machine guns in South America... which might be why THEIR crime rate has tumbled to about 1/3 of Jacksonville's.

Bottom line, the whole crew headed home to look up the Tranvias... What is left... What we might find or maybe even buy...probably for a song and dance. Could be an incredible find, or maybe a dead-end, but the next week or two should tell... Hell, I haven't had my passport stamped "Entrada Brazil" in some time! If this turned out to be a "Cinderella Story", anyone want to go to Brazil with me??

Note that when the trams operated the spelling was Mana-O-s, a more antique style of the language.

Hee Hee, I just noticed how nice those Brazilians are, they even hung Colombian flags on the restored trolley!
(ooooh they will get me for saying that!)

That kind of reminds me of the tram cars they have on the boardwalk in Atlantic City...
