Interesting note from tonight's game: This will be the second Monday night game this season where ESPN did not bring it's sideline set for pre and postgame coverage. Guess what the only other Monday night game was they didn't do this for?

I agree with PJS. Seriously, a handful of people making negative comments does not mean the national sports media hates Jacksonville. We can have legitimate gripes about certain things that are said and certain views that are perpetuated, but I definitely don't think there is an overall bias against Jax beyond just the lack of size and influence that we have.

btw, there's plenty of "national media types" that have ties to this city and have no interest in bashing us. Also, criticizing the Jaguars team is very different from criticizing the city and/or the fanbase. There certainly could be talking heads who never feel our team is any good...but that's very different. They're entitled to have their professional opinion on the sports team.

Trust me, there are many fans in many cities who believe the "media" hates their city or their team.

that is at least partially correct....the sideline guys were on TV last night talking about how it felt weird being in the studio doing the post-Sunday wrap-ups...but I'm pretty sure they were heer for the first game.

Totally depends on which handfuls.

And it's not 'negative comments' that bother me, it's the un-truthful, rumor-mongering, mailing-it-in journalism reporting articles written about the team and the city.  I'm not so blinded as a fan that I don't realize that our team's struggles aren't helping matters, but as I stated above, with so many people living here gettting their info from SportsCenter, it truly hurts our cause when they can't even perform the due diligence in their reporting to get the facts straight.  Don't the 'pay' interns for that?

QuotePeejay wake up and smell the coffee, the sports media does not like Jacksonville. They never have. Not sure where you have been, but since 1993 Jacksonville has been completely trashed in the sports media. Its not a conspriacy, but a fact.

YEAH PJ!!!!!! WAKE UP!!!!!  Where have you BEEEEENNNNN?????  Oh, you've been in Philly, Pittsburgh, Delaware, and NJ???  So you actually know what outsiders really think??  Well why didn't you say so????/

I have learned that people often want to think that others hate them and are intentionally trying to malign them, but the other people usually don't even care.  Those people are just living their life and don't usually foment the destruction of the other party. For instance, the FSU vs UF rivalry is mostly one sided in my opinion. I get reamed out by FSU fans constantly who live and die based on the rivalry, but I don't know any of my UF friends that feel anything other than annoyance and embarrassment for FSU.  Other than that one day a year where we play, they are usually just regarded as that girls' school with a student body full of unique and untreatable STD's.

With over 6% of our entire country in the NYC MSA, they're going to get a lot of air time.  LA, Chicago, Dallas, and Houston are going to get the same kind of treatment to a lesser extent.  I don't mind that Jax isn't popular, and I don't care if scholars like Kirk Herbstreet and crew don't love our city, but I agree that stating untruths as fact is just plain wrong.  That's pretty much par for the course for a lot of those brainiacs over there.

I happen to know that SVP spends time in Jax very often and he really likes the town.  However, he still thinks Jax is a small town full of small town minded fans.  I don't fault him for that because this thread and the post I quoted alone are evidence of that. I imagine if more of them gave Jax a chance, they would see the light as well.
