Del Rio FIRED!

Is that USC job they were courting Del Rio with still open? I have a feeling Del Rio might be more successful in college than he has been here.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

Kiffin is doing a great job there. He isn't going anywhere.

How's Barkley's backup?

I know the name makes Jaguar fans cringe, but what about Jeff Fisher?

I'm just saying I'd feel comfortable if the GM was making picks based on talent first. Of course you don't want to draft someone that has been in and out of jail, drug problems or something of that nature. I compare the Jaguars drafting with how the Orlando Magic draft. You can almost count on the Magic making some off the radar pick every year. We (The Jaguars) just seem to miss the target majority of the time in the draft.

I'll play.  Go back and look at the '09 draft and give us your opinion on who we really missed on.

Umm B.J. Raji > Monroe (edit)

Alualu was 2010...

Yeah I meant Monroe. NRW asked about 09. B.J. Raji, Orakpo, Clay Matthews, Aaron Maybin, Josh Freeman, Brian Cushing... I would take all of them over Monroe. Not that he's garbage

I could see what you mean about Raji or Matthews or Orakpo, but Maybin over Monroe?  Maybin's barely done anything in the league.

Also, we got Knighton in the 3rd in '09 and he has been Raji's equal.

Monroe was rated as high as 2nd on the boards and has played reasonably well, so even though some of those players taken after him have done a little better, I have a hard time seeing that as a terrible misfire.  The real misfires in the first round of '09 were the two tackles who went ahead of Monroe, Jason Smith and Andre Smith.  And Heyward-Bey, of course.

Also, at draft time those who complained about the Monroe pick were generally those mad that we didn't take Crabtree or, to a lesser extent, Harvin.  Matthews and Orakpo exceeded most people's expectations.

How did this turn into a draft thread? LOL

Right off the bat, you picked out defensive players that all play in a 3-4 scheme except Cushing (until this year)

You can't really swap them out because they have different roles.  Cushing had known drug issues coming out of college and has already sat a year for PEDs - another pop - he's done.  Maybin had his first sacks of his career this past weekend.  No one expected Matthews to be as good as he was, kinda why he was the 5th LB selected in the draft.

BAP v/s Needs Drafting.  It all goes hand in hand.  In '09 we were coming off of a defensive draft from '08 and it was about building our offense (need) so we drafted the BAP for that need - Eugene Monroe.  He is performing as well as the better known names in his class - Andre Smith & Michael Oher.  So if you rate him among the peers he was selected with, it was a hit.  He's not a Jake Long or Tony Boselli, but those guys only come along once in a blue moon - and you have to be at the top of the draft to get them.

So now someone is saying that the team is being sold but will stay in Jax according to ESPN.

Monroe has been pretty good this year. Any struggles on the line have not been from his side. '

And he's a much better player than the two OT's taken ahead of him.

Aaron Maybin sucks. And Cushing has not been the same player since he got busted for PEDs.

It happens.  BTW, DD, you are always asking for national coverage....  Here ya' go!

Coach Fired.  QB not up to par with peers.  MNFootball with a team on the skids.  You'll see so much Jags shit out there on ESPN and NFLN and USAToday than you can stand.
