Mayor says parks will be a major focus next year

Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown said Wednesday he wants to be known as the city’s “park man.”

Activities that will showcase Jacksonville’s park system will be things like holding staff meetings at parks and having events like kayaking with the mayor.

“There’s lots of things you can do that don’t cost money,” Brown said during the chat, which his administration said he’s open to doing regularly.

^The Historic Promised 680' Downtown Public Pier aka Jacksonville's Tradeport Pier will have all the Mayors of the USA saying "I'm kayaking with Mayor Brown at a Jacksonville Downtown DESTINATION that showcases our St. Johns River our American Heritage River a Federal Initiative." I'M IN!

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Mayor Brown again and I did take the opportunity to mention going kayaking again with him and he remembered. I didn't vote for the man. But I must say that I'm trying to be cautiously optimistic especially when this community is looking at a potential SHIPYARDS III.

Will the pier be on the FIND list?

Noone, surely you saw the article in the paper Sunday about Tom Ingram's work with FIND and the kayak launches.  I am anxious to start working on the Riverfront Park launch.  What are your thoughts?
