NBA Players Reject Offer, Move to Dissolve Union

The NBA is easily my favorite professional sport, and it is just such a remarkable slap to the face of all the fans (whose funds have built many of the stadiums), arena workers, local businesses, training staffs, etc. that the owners and the players haven't been able to work this out. With the players looking to dissolve the union, the chances of a 2011-2012 NBA season happening are looking to be close to zero. Reprehensible, deplorable, disgusting behavior by all those involved. The NBA had never been a hotter worldwide property than it was coming out of last season, and it's all going to be thrown away. Really depressing as a fan.

My Mavs won the champs and not a moment to soon. Yeah this is definitely getting old. College basketball will see a big shot of popularity because of this. Haven't heard much lately in the way of the players headed to Europe and Asia.

As a Heat, Marlins and Dolphin fan, this whole thing sucks. I was looking forward to a season this year, as opposed to watching the fish stink up their respective leagues. Oh well....

As a Cleveland fan, you can put me in the "let it burn" camp.

Just like the NFL Lock out... A bunch of rich cry babies. I wish I had millions of dollars to cry over.

At least they are willing to spend money now. Baseball hasn't been the same for me since Cabrera was traded to Detroit for dirty socks and a couple of balls.

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Replacement players.  Replacement owners. Replacement agents.

Replace Billy Hunter.

Fire David Stern.

Stern has been, without question, the greatest sports commissioner of my lifetime, and now, this is going to be his legacy. Smugly smiling on Sportscenter talking about how the players have caused a "nuclear winter" for the NBA and implying that it could be years before the courts settle this, with no apology or even recognition of how this affects the public, the fans, and those whose livelihoods depend on the NBA.

I blame the players and the owners equally. Yes, it is billionaires arguing with millionaires, but I totally respect the fact that both sides deserve their fair share of the pie. What I don't respect is the fact that they had two and a half years to work this out, and it seems like they did absolutely nothing until October of this year. I blame the owners and David Stern for being bullies and throwing down a public ultimatum, in bad faith, that the players would have looked weak for accepting. And I blame the players for not either swallowing their pride and accepting the deal, or at least making a counter-proposal with enough minor changes so that they could save some face and get the damn season under way.

It's genuinely infuriating as a fan.

+1!  Miggie and D-Train both...  that trade hurt.
At least we got Amezaga back!

It's amazing to see the amount of vitriol and disgust for both the owners and the players on the NBA's own website (NBA.com) over the last few weeks:

The NBA lockout to union decertification has an architect.  IMO, this isn't about the inability to work things out, it's about 1 guy who stands to make the most......

He tried the same ruse during the NFL's last negotiation, until he was asked, not so politely, to get the fuck out of the room and let adults handle business.
A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.
