The Daily Beast rated the 30 most broke cities in America. I don't have the freakin' official thread link or whatever (maybe a wiseguy will post it for me), so I'm just gonna list them manually.

26. Flint
25. Savannah
24. Ft. Myers
23. Birmingham

thank goodness we have Rick Scott ::)

Indeed. And you can pretty much bet on most of those states/cities (and more not listed) who have elected politicians that are Tea Party-backed will be concentrating on pullings funds for actual life improvements that enable smarter growth (like transit, bike lane/pedestrian ways, etc) & will make it go towards maintaining the mess they've made by that type of backwards thinking for decades, all while preaching about being "conservative".

Dig around & you'll see story after story of this happening. We're doing it here, and so are many others. So I think unless you're in a city that has these things going for it already, with solid plans of more improvements with smart people behind it, then I wouldn't hold my breath.

I wonder what the politics are on those stats...seems to me like conservative republican ran cities to me...with exceptions i'm sure...it just seems to me that the conservative right wing republican teaparty way is the way to the pits...when will americans learn from the past?

I don't put too much stock in these things, but Florida, including all our biggest cities, appears to be represented accurately.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

actually many cities are run by progressives and typical party politics aren't much of an issue at the local level....it is at the state and Federal level where the D (liberal) vs. R (conservative) thing really takes shape...for example, all four major cities in FL (Tampa, Orlando, Miami, and Jax.) are now led by Democrats

The woes of Florida, in my opinion, can be blamed on the mismanagement by the prior and present governors.

^Well, that, and several decades of centering our economy around real estate and then having it collapse.

Never mind.  I read the article and understand they were talking about the citizens, not the local govt.

Hauling trash out of McCoy's Creek side by side with a former Jacksonville Candidate for Mayor recently I was reminded of the early Peyton campaign................the quietly effective theme that if the chips were really down rich Peyton would come to our rescue and pay out of pocket.Absurd yes,but a very real element in this town that ranks within the top/bottom 30.

We blindly assume, thanks to a post.

Why should we assume this 'study' is credible??
