If nothing else, the news of Urban's firing has brought back interest in this thread.  I wonder if it will equate to more butts in the seats at TIAA field?

No one has mentioned it yet so I will...  Trent Baalke needs to go also... and as such we need a new GM also... just sayin...

Merry Christmas!   :)
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Discussion of a different kind of "urban core" for a change!  Interestingly, on a similar plane in terms of victories vs. losses and ability to "coach" the team.

I'm hoping we get Josh McDaniels from NE.  Their rookie QB has done well and I think he could help Trevor.

Jaguars' game plan by down:  1. Up the middle.  2. Up the middle. 3. Short pass for either too short or incomplete.  4. Punt.  Repeat

Pretty bold move from Khan to go on a tangent about how downtown has "gone downhill" in the last 10 years while his very own football franchise continues to reset the bar when it comes to peak futility. Every single time Khan has tried to "clean house" from a previous screw up, he inevitably keeps pieces around from said previous screw up. Baalke being the most recent as he was under Caldwell's reign of terror. Not only do the jags need a new HC, they need a new-literally-everything besides ownership since Khan isn't about to sell. There couldn't possibly be another NFL roster so void of talent in the history of the league as the 2021 Jaguars. We've somehow managed to make the 2nd coming of John Elway look more like the 2nd coming of Blaine Gabbert. Trinity has more competent receivers than the Jags. Tyson Cambell has somehow become the only person on defense who's figured out how to make A PLAY once every couple games.

Khan, for the love for all that is football, please remove your stache from your &$$ and provide the city you so love to criticize-while-asking-for-handouts with something that can even remotely resemble a competent NFL franchise. Signed, literally anyone who's ever considered themselves a Jags fan.

Well, the Jaguars' offense looked better today.  Trevor seemed more poised and relaxed and the receiver made some great catches.  That is about it for the good.  Now, the bad.  The defense stunk.  They can't tackle.  Not many wrap-ups and many half hearted attempts to stop anyone.  The worse part though was special teams.  They are the leagues worst tacklers.  Watch when the Jags kickoff or punt.  There are always several Jags down the field near the returner, but they always make a diving, empty effort to make a tackle.  This team needs a do over.  Embarassing and pitiful.

On the bright side - we are in the lead for a 2nd consecutive #1 pick.

What hole do you'll think the Jags will plug with their next #1 pick?

My bet is on Josh McDaniels as the next coach.  Great with quarterbacks, offensively minded, lots of pro experience including as a former head coach and has passed up head jobs before but now apparently in play.  I think he would also excite the fan base coming from the successes of New England.  A relatively safe bet for Khan who needs to go cautious with his next choice after Meyer.

He can only look good, too, taking the Jags job after our string of failures.  How could he resist that?

^ LOL.  May need to hedge my bet above based on this report tonight:

Wonder if they will expand the list or only choose from this group.

MusicMan

Reports that Jags are retaining Trent Balke.  Shad going down the same damn road........

^ May also explain why Josh McDaniels isn't on the current short list being reported.  See excerpt below from Times Union's Gene Frenette column:
QuoteGiven Khan's hiring track record, there's good reason to feel whoever the Jaguars marry up with Baalke as a head coach will end in divorce. It's not far-fetched to think some potential candidates — New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, for example – could be hesitant to come here despite the appeal of working with quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

MusicMan

The consensus is that there are 2 great candidates, Jim Caldwell and Doug Pederson.  Really wish they had been on the job already. Urban was a disaster from before OTA's....

Hopefully Trent Baalke won't screw this up.

Ken_FSU

I don't think Baalke survives 2021.
