O line is awful... d line and backers seem ok... secondary has issues... Trevor will not last the year... gonna get killed..

This was a given. It will take them a while to get it together. Going 8-8 in the 2022 season would be an improvement.

Absolutely... it will be interesting to see who the play makers end up being... lots of inexperienced youngsters
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

When did the OL get so bad?

Jaguar's nuber 21 should be cut today.  The Jags will be lucky if they win 3 games this year.

When did the OL get so bad?

This isn't to defend the line - two starters are merely adequate, one (Taylor) has been a massive disappointment, and the only backup who isn't raw and inexperienced is Shatley.

But three starters were out last night, including the two good ones, Linder and Norwell.  And it was obnoxious to listen to ESPN's talking heads say "OMG how could the Jaguars keep all five starters from last year LOL!" all night, occasionally providing the context that Linder and Norwell were out but not acknowledging Robinson.  And while Robinson isn't anything great, our having a rookie trying to block Marcus Davenport was kind of a salient fact they were leaving out.

In the second half the Jags had the third team line getting overpowered while the Saints still had some starting-caliber players in the game like Kpassagnon and the guy who's going to be suspended for the first six games.  At one point Griese mumbled "this is unfair that they're still in" but that would just interrupt the narrative, so they didn't go anywhere with it.

The only consolation to this was that it reminded me of Jon Gruden's constant ridicule of the Jaguars during their ESPN preseason game in 2017, and of course 2017 turned out all right.  (I don't think we're about to come close to repeating 2017, but I can dream.)  I certainly hope they try to swing a trade for an RT before the season starts because Taylor's just not cutting it and I don't think Walker Little is far enough along to supplant him.  He had a bad night last night for sure.

Disappointing to see the starting secondary have such a bad night against the Saints' B team wide receivers.  I expect more from Griffin and Jenkins for sure, and Campbell seems to have no idea how to play the ball at the catch point, which was the knock on him coming into the draft.  Jones or Henderson should be starting over him.  Even Tre Herndon seems to have more awareness.

Pretty sure he will be, but in his defense, Lil'Jordan Humphrey shouldn't have been permitted to shove him halfway to Lake Ponchartrain without drawing an OPI.

That was a terrible no call, but that's not the only play he was completely outclassed.  On several occasions he looked like JV high school.   The Jags need a talent evaluator upgrade.  Both teams the Jags have played so far in pre season had better 2nd string players than the Jag's first.  The offensive line is troublesome, line backers OK.

We've all watched the Jags long enough to become registered professionals at recognizing God-Awful football. Even with the new regime, draft class, etc... the Jags are still GOD AWFUL. The preseason matters when nearly all your starters are playing and still being bullied by the opposition.

And now Etienne is out for the season

thelakelander

Saves Etienne from a physical beating this season. That team needs to get that OL right.

The OL isn't good, but it's not the total travesty it appeared to be last night either with the three backups starting.  James Robinson ran for a lot of yards behind the same line last year.

That wasn't your Saints of old. A lot of players gone and even Michael Thomas is out for a long time. They looked seasoned and well drilled by comparison and Payton is a terrific coach. Whilst we are in transition, so that's what I'm hoping it was down to at least.

Injuries like last night are why I'd happily shed pre season games when we the league eventually goes to 18.

I'm hopeful as the season progresses we will become tougher to beat but even against a crappy team like Houston week 1 we might struggle as we are young and they are veteran heavy.

MusicMan

I think they said Peyton has been NO head coach 16 years? Is that correct? he schooled Urban Meyer for sure.

Yeah... cause the team composition was totally equal... get a grip...
