Weather definitely played into it.

My employer has several sets of tickets that we give away to employees. It was nearly impossible to give away free tickets to this past game. This upcoming week will likely be the same story.

I think the combination of little Titans fan interest and the heat was the reason.

I don't get this part.  I mean.... I do try to understand, but on a personal level, I don't fucking get it.

There's 3 games that the stadium should always be packed for, depending on the timing of the schedule, and that's the Titans, the Colts and the Texans.  These are division games and they matter.

Homefield advantage is a real thing, but after a few shitty passes from BB5, we didn't have it.  I could hear Mariota calling checks from my seat and that should never happen.  So I get people being pissed with the way that Bortles (and the entire offense really) didn't bother to show up, but the most vocal people on Monday were more than likely the least vocal on Sunday.

While I'm soapboxing, can someone please explain the benefit to me of leaving a game before it's decided?  Not sure what traffic you're beating out of there as your rush to the exit with 15k in tow.  I personally would rather to chill in my seat for a few extra minutes and hang out in the parking lot rather than rush to go sit in a line of traffic full of pissed off fans.

Just my $0.02.

In regard to your last point, this is why downtown needs more things to do on a Sunday other than restaurants and drinking

Since when did Floridians become scared of 90 degree heat? I mean, I hate it - but I am given to understand that I'm a big baby*.

In terms of the division rival, I blame two things. First being the obvious one. The Jaguars have mostly been dreadful since the AFC South was created in 2002. It's hard to be a rival without anyone when you are terrible.

Second is geographically the NFL screwed all of the teams in the AFC South. The closest team to the Jaguars is 600 miles away. Imagine if the Jaguars were in the same division with Miami, Tampa or Atlanta.

Also, despite success last year. There are a lot of Jaguar skeptics in this town. Some that have spent a lot of money in the past to watch the Jags get destroyed by some other NFL team. Games like yesterday don't help. That was pitiful to watch.

When the NFL realigned in 2002, they basically did this (and this applies to both the AFC AND the NFC)

East and North Divisions: Historical Rivals
West Divisions: Combination of Historical Rivals (Raiders and Chiefs) and Geography
South Divisions: The other 4 teams in each conference (Seriously)

We weren't terrible last year.  And we weren't terrible the first 2 weeks of this year.  If people were going to show up, there was plenty of reason to do so.  It didn't happen.

Not sure how this matters?  It just means we're not driving to the away games and they're not coming here.

That's hindsight.  The stands never filled up and too many left well before the game was decided.  Why spend all the money just to get home 4 minutes earlier?

Besides the fact of how many games have come down to a final drive, or a fluke play or a game tying/winning field goal?  It doesn't happen all the time, but...  I was there for the kick, the hail mary, the Monday Night Ravens game, the Chargers game last year...   I'd hate to tell people I missed it because I was trying to get home a few minutes early.

Well as of today we have an elite defense and an inconsistent offense.  I don't see that changing during the remainder of the season.

I would love to see the addition of Le'Veon Bell to our offense. That would give us a veteran superstar presence. We have veteran leadership on the defense but not the offense.

Is it impossible to add him with salary cap issues?  I bet he would love to come here.

I really hate that in his second season, Fournette has missed two of the first three games.  (Is it two and a half...?)

I think maybe the idea is that closer divisional rivals would possibly create a better atmosphere - I think there would be the added element of FL cities competing against each other. Not sure it would make a difference, but it makes a certain sense.

Do you really not think that if the Jaguars had been placed in the same division with the Bucs, Dolphins or Falcons that they would not have a more intense rivalry than what they currently have with the AFC South teams?

thelakelander

I see how that helps the Jags but how does that impact time tested rivalries like Dolphins/Jets or Bills?

They've been not-terrible for a calendar year. They were terrible for ten years.

I am just telling you what I hear when trying to give away free tickets and not having an easy time doing so.

The main gripes I hear are the heat, the cost of parking/food (mind you they still complain about this despite free tickets) and skepticism that the team is actually good.

A real concern I have with the team's long term viability in this market if there are enough people in this area to support the team.

I think we have enough willing to spend $25 on a shirt and sit down for three hours every Sunday to watch them play on TV.

But I don't know if we have enough fans willing to spend thousands of dollars every year on going to games.

That is an issue.

I'd laugh at them over Tannehill, but they are 3-0. I'm shocked.
