Jags hire Joe DeCamillis as special teams coordinator, formerly of Denver.

Long career, well respected around the league, an appropriate response to the repeated muffed kicks and coverage breakdowns this season.

DeCamillis was the Jags' coordinator in 2007-08 when they had pretty strong coverage and return units, and also pulled off the Montell Owens fake punt TD against the Texans.

Most everything I've read has been positive, though his last season in Denver wasn't exactly great, but even though he's considered a solid coach, he's never been in any one place for too long.

I'm suspecting this is due to circumstances out of his control - i.e. coaching changes above his pay grade.

Other than having a practice facility being under construction, is there anything we should be concerned about this hire?

DeCamillis is a great hire.

Just dont let him into the new practice facility.  :)  He fractured his back in the Cowboys facility when it collapsed on him and 11 players.

May he have better circumstances in Jax!!

His frequent relocations seem to be more a function of head coach/GM turnover or of being in demand around the league, and not from any wearing out of welcomes or poor performances.  Denver media acknowledging this is a loss for the Broncos.

Tip of the hat on the practice facility reference.

FYI, word is that former 49er head coach Chip Kelly was in town for talks with Coughlin this weekend.

If they can close the deal, this (Chip Kelly) is exciting news.

Well this isn't the Pac 10 so it's exciting for everyone. The Jags and the opposing team!

QuoteKelly brought his fast-paced, up-tempo offense from Oregon and attempted to make it work in the NFL. The Eagles had the most offensive snaps (3,283) of any team during his three seasons with the Eagles, but they also committed the third-most turnovers (86) in that span.

Kelly's offense also put a strain on his defense. The Eagles played the most defensive snaps of any team from 2013-15 (3,411).

If Jags do hire Chip Kelly, that might be the smartest thing they have done in a while.

They made a smarter move and went with someone else. Chip Kelly and his still doesn't work well in the NFL.

Khan is a dipshit, Wayne Weaver was a dipshit but a better patron to the city.

I'm convinced Khan hiring Coughlin was just so he didn't get shanked at home games.
I support meaningless jingoistic cliches

Yeah, turning around the Eagles with freaking Nick Foles and other less-than-stellar talent clearly didn't work.  He's a fantastic, brilliant coach, just a bad manager and personnel guy.  If he could've reunited with Marriotta, he'd be kicking tons of ass.

He had two half decent season with the eagles, and was a disaster at San Fran..............

Yea.........

If, if was a fifth we would all be drunk..........

Chip Kelly had an original idea in offense and in personnel, unfortunately he was unable to execute it fully.

Essentially make over a NFL team based on free agency that takes talent exiting thier first rookie contract but still in their prime of production. Sign them for 4 or 5 years until statiscally 80% of the NFL is reaching their downside of production.

This way he would be running an NFL team not unlike a college team, where he gets 4 to 5 years of output before the talent moves on either to another team or retires.

His big mistake was signing DeMarco Murray. He didnt need him really, but got obsessed at taking talent out of a competitor not inlike recruiting for college.

He had more authority in college on making those personnel shifts. Its a little harder in the NFL.

Apparently the Jags have hired Keenan McCardell as wide receiver coach.
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Touché, Ennis, touché.

But it's a non-issue now. A very big welcome back to Keenan!

All the changes have been interesting, it does look like Coughlin is running the show.  How long before the Bobs pay Dave Caldwell a visit and ask this classic question.
