Quote from: Murder_me_Rachel on September 02, 2015, 10:58:15 AMUnlike you all, i have played golf several times with Scobee (he's a friend of a friend). He is, in fact, a douche.  I couldn't honestly care less if you all agree with me or not.  Just look for his quotes around the 2012 election echoing Romney's comments about "takers" versus "makers". Hint: he and Romney would be fast friends.

Dude, I think that if you're counting on professional athletes as people you want to hold your personal beliefs, that might be your core issue right here. Most of the times that I hear a political statement from a celebrity, I disagree - that doesn't factor in to whether I'll watch their movie. So, maybe his political beliefs maybe different than yours - who made you King?

This is the single thing that frustrates me the most when it comes to political views. We seem to think that if a person doesn't see things the same as we do, they are a "douche". Unless I hear proof that the guy is kicking puppies or beating women, I'm going to continue to be a fan (unless he's kicking against the Jags).

Related to Josh Scobee, I've never met him. I only know that he seems like a good person (never heard otherwise - and sorry, political differences don't make someone a bad person), and as a Jags fan, he made placekicking a non-issue for a decade for the team.

One fer Scobee!

funwithteeth

Wait, sorry, I just remembered the time I played Golden Tee 2010 with Scobee and he chased me around the bar with a broken beer bottle after I suggested that maybe a "fair tax" wasn't so fair after all.

I take back what I previously said.

MMR, do you have a citation on the "takers" quote?  Not to doubt you, but I can't seem to find one, don't have any recollection of it...and given that I do recall Scobee grew up with quite a bit of financial hardship after his father's death, I'm pretty surprised if he said that.
The tourist would realize at once that he had struck the Land of Flowers - the City Beautiful!

Guys, I'm golfing with Scobee right now, and he says MMR's just hating because he doesn't appreciate the fine art of SHOUTING CAPITALS and WOOOOORD LEEEEEENGTHENNNNINGGGGG.

No, if you are a millionaire and got that way by kicking a ball a few times a week, and you criticize the poor as "takers", you are objectively a fucking terrible human being.

Fair enough.  And I have no reason to doubt your coversations and interactions with the man.  But given what I and numerous other posters know about Josh Scobee and his accomplishments on and off the field for the Jaguars, this makes you the proverbial boot wearer with a heel that says "DOUCHE" wanting so desperately to brand his ass - problem is you're literally hopping along on a solitary DOUCHE-booted leg.

I mean if I were to judge individuals exclusively on their political and religious views as opposed to their whole body of accomplishments most of my posts on message boards would be bitter, cynical, and critical...

Ok. You're entitled to your feeling. Personally I don't care how he got his money, as long as it was attained through legal means. And obviously you were the only one who heard the alleged quote, but I'm not of the opinion that he is required to share his money with anyone-I don't care if he has NFL Kicker Money or Shad Khan money.

Maybe I'm a terrible human being.

So that's why he ducked out after the last hole.

Subjectively not objectively.

Looks like Brady will be playing against the Jags in week three - Judge voided the NFLs four game suspension altogether

^Heard a roar of disgust suddenly make its way around the office about ten minutes ago.

Thought something terrible had happened.

Was the Tom Brady news.

Sucks, but will be nice to beat the Pats full-strength :D

Brady should be the least of Jags fan's early season concerns. Worry about making it out alive after that week 2 beating headed your way! ;)
