I have been hearing a lot of gushing quotes like this about Chad Henne coming out of the Jags front office lately. Kind of scares me a little bit. I just don't see how a team with 16 touchdown passes total last season is in any position to not be thinking quarterback first in the draft, especially if Teddy happens to still be available.

QuoteCaldwell told Prisco that he hasn't yet spoken with any of the top quarterback prospects, and that he's just beginning his evaluations. Still, for the umpteenth time this offseason, Caldwell sang the praises of quarterback Chad Henne.

"We have a lot of issues," Caldwell said. "We have a lot of places we need to get better. Chad did a pretty admirable job for us. He was .500 in his last eight games. It was his first year in the system. Just because he's a veteran doesn't mean you know the system. He has good leadership skills. Guys rallied around him. Our feeling is if we can upgrade the offensive line, get some playmakers, improve the running game, I think he can sustain us and be our starter until somebody presents himself."

They are just getting you ready to accept the fact that they are not going to draft a QB in round 1.
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Im okay if they dont. I'd rather them wait than to set us back any further. Weve been set back twice already (Gabbert and Leftwich). If the person is not there, dont force it. Henne is servicable at QB with a competent team around him. And he does display good leader and he controls the offense. Im okay with him until we get "our guy". Thats IF we dont draft a QB high. Its to early to believe or speculate about what any GM is saying at this point. They still have to evaluate, watch flim, attend the combine, etc. I'd rather Caldwell frame his responses the way he is, instead of giving us false hope. Im sure no one will agree (LOL) but I personally saw improvement in Henne the second half of the season. The batted passes dropped dramtically and so did the interceptions. Who knows the know coaching staff may be helping him get better.

They have many holes to fill... and QB is only one of them.

Unless Clowney is there, I would be surprised if they don't take a QB. I just hope Bridgewater is there.

Even if Clowney is there, they probably will take a QB. I think everyone was just ready too much into Caldwells comments. Until they do their do dillgence on the QB's, they cant guarentee anything. I would rather them do their homework first, then just say " Were taking Bridgewater", without even evaluating him throughly.

With everyone arriving for the Combine, I think it's good that Caldwell is keeping quiet about who he's looking at for the draft ... Unfortunately I think it will also cause us to see a lot of "professional guessing" until mid-May.

QuoteCaldwell did say recently he had a pretty good idea who he had targeted as the Top 5 players, but he declined to offer insight about the identity of the five.

What we do know is pretty much every draftnik is projecting the Jaguars to take either pass rusher or quarterback at No. 3 overall. Then again, this time last year a lot of those same draftniks were projecting the Jaguars to take Barkevious Mingo or Geno Smith.

I am just saying I would not be surprised if they took Clowney over QB. I tend to think Bridgewater is their guy and he is the easy choice if available. Manziel and Bortles both have a ton of question marks. I went to the UCF-South Carolina last year and I didn't think Bortles was very impressive at all. I was more impressed by their running backs.

^ Agreed.  I'd have no objection to drafting Storm Johnson.

Oh no I got what your were saying. I just replied to your comment and add a little extra. LOL

Quote"I know they (Jaguars) are focused on a complete draft," Polian said. "The fans get focused on the number one pick, but they (Jaguars) are focused on trying to get as many good players as they can and make this draft where you have a premium position in each round, which is important."

Polian is a long time NFL guy. But I would keep in mind that one of his sons works for the Jaguars and Caldwell went to high school and college with his other son.

^^^IMO that move would make zero sense, considering the RB talent that Frisco has already.

If they re-sign Henne, which I believe they will, Caldwell has already said he will not start a rookie QB. So it really does not matter who they get at QB, provided they believe that the QB drafted has the talent to come in and assume the throne from Henne.

Caldwell is a drafter of talent. If Clowney has more talent than the others at position 3, based on Caldwell's information I believe Caldwell will take Clowney.

The Jags aren't interested in HBO's "Hard Knocks". I don't blame them for not wanting those distractions.
