Is this team rebuilding or not???  This pickup makes little sense to me.  We have young DEs in Branch, Lane, and Selvie.  Why not get those three more playing time and see if they are worth building on rather than take on a 32-year old DE at $338K per game?

Because if he's still worth a shit, we will still only pay him roughly $270k/game ($4.3M) for next year.  Think about the upfront money you have to have to sign guys during FA.

If he doesn't seem to be working out, we can always cut him.  Simple.

I thought our strategy was draft and develop.  We signed Mincey last year and spent a high second-round pick on a pass-rush specialist DE.  Play the young guys.  This season is over.

Here's the thing, we have to be productive while they develop. who know they could take another two of three years to fully develop. Until then, we need a pass rush. Plain and simple

They don't develop hanging out of the sideline.

The pirate theme of RayJay beats out our utilitarian stadium any day.

Our fans show up stronger though, win or lose...and we haven't won a Super Bowl yet.

Okay, that's the only thing that yall can mention, a flashy pirate ship. What about the meat & potatoes, like technology? Two new big screens; Four new cata-corner mid-sized screens that gives you fantasy football stats, game stats, game graphics etc (Tampa has cata-corner ads); A kickass sound system; the Bud Light Party Zone; new locker room; Closer distance to the field from the first row. Yall can have a cute lil' pirate ship, and I'll take Everbank anyday. It aint no way that Ray J's technology should be behind's Everbank's, but it is. Even Tampa fan will tell you that the Glazers are more satisfied with making boatloads of money, than improving the fan experience, and lowering those outrageous ticket prices. I really can't fault Tampa Bay fans for having blackouts, those prices are ridiculous.

There's no clear franchise QB, RB, or WR in this draft, so it really doesn't matter if we end up winning an additional game because of a timely sack or two via Babin. As long as we're in the top 6, we'll get a 'A' player without paying #1 money.

Non-RedNeck Westsider

I don't know why this is so hard to wrap your heads around.

Babin from waivers costs us paychecks for 5 games to see if we even want to keep him around next year.

Babin from FA costs us $15MM in signing bonuses and he still may not work out.

If we keep him next year, we owe - paychecks.

If we grab another DE in FA, we owe - huge signing bonus.

The contract isn't even that expensive, considering the amount of sacks he's had over the last few years.

Why can't you just look at this for what it is - we may have just gotten a solid pass rusher for nickles on the dollar.  We may have just gotten the biggest pain-in-the-ass in the locker room that doesn't have any more football in him.  Fact is, we aren't going to have to pay the $10MM- $15MM to find out.

Because I saw Gene Smith attempt a half ass rebuilding already.  The time for half measures is over.  The young talent needs to play and develop.  We spent a high second round pick on a defensive end in this year.  Now, we are going to take his snaps away and give them to a 32 year old who may have a season or two in him.  No thanks.

I am sick and tired of how nonchalantly Gene Smith throws around draft picks.  A high second round draft pick should be starting on this team.  Not watching a scrap heap 32 year old.  The Jaguars need to be building a foundation with youth.

Yeah, I saw that.  The head coach always wants to win as do the players.  The GM has to look at the bigger picture.  The next five games don't mean sh*t except to evaluate and develop young talent.  Stop the half measures and rebuild the right way - through the draft.

^If it makes you feel better, there's no way Smith will be around next year. That's the "bigger picture".
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?
