In a nutshell, an NFL analyst is saying that you might not see as many deep balls for a while simply because the Jags have instituted a quick-throw oriented offense (at least at first) to allow Gabbert to better develop his decision making skills.  This is considered a credit to our current coaching staff, and a demerit to last year's.

This IS Mularkey and Bratkowski's offense.  Run, run, short pass.  It's been the knock on them, and Atlanta fans have been hating it for years.  Maybe it's a good thing for Gabbert now, but the lack of deep passes may have less to do with Gabbert, and more to do with the coaching staff.

The difference is though. Bratkowski's is calling the plays and not Mularkey. But you are right though. This is a start. A great start for us. Atlanta may have complained, but atleast they were in the playoffs three years in a row. I'll take that right now versus what has happened the past five years LOL

I'm not sure I quite understand what the Atlanta fans complained about either, since the Falcons (and the Bengals under Bratkowski as OC) seemed to throw downfield quite a bit.  Not that I watched those teams as closely as the Jags, but they certainly went deep a good bit more often than the Jags did.  Both teams deployed TEs a lot and had grind-it-out backs (Rudi Johnson, Michael Turner) so I guess there could be some tendencies toward conservatism there, but the Jags' offense already looks way more diverse and creative than it did the past several years.  And I suspect the Falcons' laying an egg against the Giants in last year's playoffs is coloring some Falcon fans' overall opinion.

We have talent in our backfield and our O-line is better at run than pass blocking anyway, so I don't think it's the worst thing in the world if we're closer to the vest at first anyway.

You know how it goes. When something goes wrong, somebody has to get blamed. The QB, the coaches, the runnun back, the WR. Fans to have someone to pin it on. Seems to me their deep passes were great. They sure ate up our injuried secondary last year. I think everyone is obessed now with have passing offenses because that is the in thing. They dont care for having balanced teams anymore. But guess what, the 49er's made it all the way to the chapionships with medicore QB play, a good ground game, and outstanding defense. Atlanta needs to find someone else to blame for their failures on that part. Atlanta is good, but I think Mulrkeys offense was part of their success.

I think our offense will be better than we people expect as well. Im still predicting 9-7 and our offense being in atleast the top 15. Mularkeys offense usually have a quick turn around. Take a look at this.. all I can say is holy shitballs! They were only 9-7, but they were destroying every team they played:

Week 6- miami- 20-13Week 8-Cardinals-38-17Week 9-Jets-22-17Week 11-Rams-37-17Week 12-Seahawks-38-9Week 13-Miami-42-32Week 14-Browns-37-7Week 15-Bengals-33-17Week 16-49er's-41-17

We have much more talent on our team now, than Buffalo had. People under estimate us, but we have some good players, that were not properly utilized by previous coaching. I think we can do better than what the Bills did under Mularkey.

Okay so  I got in the game a little late, so Im glad I didnt see the fumble. LOL but we had LONNGGGGG ass drive so I was pleased. Went for it on 4th and 1, didnt work. Im going to slap the shit outta Laurent Robinson . gabbert threw that deep ball perfectly, and it was right where it was supposed to be. But Robinson started to slow down looking up in the damn air!!! He had just enough steps on the defenders and he would have hauled that one in. so its offical, Gabbert can go deep, but AGAIN, whose going to catch it. LOL But hey Robinson atleast caught one ball right???? LOL!!

I figured that much. Teams usually only keep two QB's, but he was a great guy though. Made for an exciting preseason, even if he was playing on the third team.

Dang - was it ever this bad in JAX?  Does that mean that they only have ~35k accounted for?

QuoteThe Bucs confirmed they still need to sell 9,000 tickets to reach the 85 percent general seat threshold to lift the NFL's blackout of their regular season opener against Carolina Sept. 9.

The Bucs were among only a few teams that elected to take the league's offer of selling 85 percent of the general seats -- about 44,000 -- in order meet the requirements for a sellout at RJS under the NFL's modified guidelines.

The Bucs are offering free parking and half price on all concessions, excluding alcohol, for the season opener against the Panters. They have discounted tickets to include $15 and $30 options, initiated half-season ticket packages and 12-month payment plans.

Anyone down for a roadtrip to Tampa?

Cigar City Brewing is right around the corner from the stadium.

A $15 ticket, free parking, & 1/2 price concessions - that's minor league stuff right there....

fsujax

anyone notice they spelled Panthers, Panters in the article? The story is pretty bad, I am sure ESPN will overlook it. That metro area is more than double ours in population.

duvaldude08

I guess its their turn. We got it for having black outs for one year. Look like they are heading into year three. What makes it even more sad is that they LOWERED the blackout threshold.

Bucs inability to sell out should raise specter of relocation

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue to struggle to sell tickets, and it’s gotten so bad that it’s time to address the question of whether the market still merits having an NFL franchise.

With their regular-season home opener only nine days away, the Buccaneers remain 9,000 short of the goal for lifting the local blackout.

The gap, reported by Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune, must be closed within 72 hours of kickoff, or the game won’t be televised in the team’s home market.

The failure to sell enough tickets at the stadium comes despite a string of efforts to sell all non-premium seats, from taking full advantage of the new league rule that allows teams to cut their “manifest” to 85 percent, to uncharacteristically spending million on free agents like Vincent Jackson, Carl Nicks, and Eric Wright, to hiring a new coach, to cutting the prices on parking and concessions for the home opener, to honoring Ronde Barber.

By the way, it’s the first freaking game of the year.  And Cam Newton is coming to town.  Division rival.  The team that once claimed Chris Simms’ spleen.

It was supposed to be a slam dunk for Week One.  And still the team is 9,000 tickets short.

Look, we like Tampa.  The city did a great job hosting the Super Bowl.  But regardless of the reason â€" local economy, apathy, whatever â€" if fans continue to fail to show up for the games, at some point the team needs to be moved to a place where the fans have the money, the time, and the inclination to attend games.

The Glazers get blamed for plenty of things.  They bear no blame here.  The Glazers have tried to improve the team and to make it more attractive to attend games.  Eventually, the people need to respond.

There’s no indication that the Glazers are looking to move the team.  Given the manner in which the community continues to respond to the franchise, they’d be crazy if they weren’t exploring their options.
