As far as his contract, could actually make things tougher. The Jaguars are definitely not going to want a lot of up front, guaranteed money attached to his contract, which seems to be the norm these days. And his agent is going to want every dime they can get.

True enough, but his agent is going to backed in a corner in a sense. There's only so much you can do when your client is a liability. Not to mention there is not much wiggle room in rookie contracts under the new CBA. So there wont be much hardballing on either side really. The Jags probably will give a market value offer, and include a provision in the contract so they can get out of it if he screws up again. It will be interesting to see how this plays out

To bad that this happen, so much negativity with the city and team lately. We need a break.

Well, on the bright side; we should have some additional Cap money now....doubt he'll be holding out.

As a sports fan, I desperately want Blackmon to play the full season, but as a citizen, a misdemeanor? For driving three times over the league limit? That's over a dozen drinks. Yet, if he would been driving stone sober with his seat belt on but had an ounce of marijuana in his glovebox, it's probably an easy felony. I love these states and municipalities that spend millions of dollars installing red light cameras in the name of driver safety, and then let potentially deadly aggravated DUIs off with a slap on the wrist.

Hopefully, for all of our sakes as we will be sharing the roads with him, he learns his lesson this time.

^^what probably was considered is that the DUI was another state. Ive had one in past, however I know of someone who has had about 4. He had two in LA and two in FL. And he told me the ones from LA did not follow him here. That is a bit crazy but it happens. But I am sure he has learned his lesson. The first time he just got cited. When he actually has to go through ALL that they take you through, he wont do it again, I would hope. He will have thousands of dollars in fine, community service and probation at the least. Not to mention treatment. Luckily, he can do the treatment through the NFL. This would be a HUGE scare for anybody who is on the brink of being a superstar. But I agree. I think he should be suspended for the preseason. We need him for the regular season, Im sorry! (bias sportsfan, I know! LOL)

Under the CBA in regard to rookie contracts, the team is not allowed to bring down punishment on him. Whatever punishment he receives will be from the NFL, which will probably be just a fine.

QuoteBlackmon gives Khan first big challenge of NFL ownership
Posted by Mike Florio on June 4, 2012, 11:08 PM EDT

Last week, Jaguars owner Shahid Khan got the first test of his tenure as owner of the team, thanks to a public pissing match with the City of Jacksonville.

He hadn’t seen anything yet.

Khan now has to decide what to do with receiver Justin Blackmon, the fifth overall pick in the draft who consumed much more than a six-pack (allegedly) before getting behind the wheel of a car on Sunday morning.

Khan has options.  He can do nothing, deferring to the authorities first and, if Blackmon is convicted or pleads guilty (or no contest or enters a diversion program), the league office second.  At the other end of the spectrum, Khan can renounce his rights to Blackmon â€" which is almost as unlikely as Khan renouncing his rights to the franchise.

In between those two extremes resides a range of possibilities.  Khan can, as previously explained, insist on provisions in Blackmon’s rookie deal that would erase future salary guarantees if Blackmon has any further incidents.  Or Khan could insist on breaking from the slotting process, offering Blackmon a contract that represents a fair estimate of what he would receive based on where Blackmon would be selected if the draft were held today.

Khan could take that mindset to another level, explaining to Blackmon’s agent that the player will be offered a contract roughly worth what he would receive if he sits out a full year and re-enters the draft in 2012, inevitably being selected far lower than the fifth overall pick.

Then there’s the possibility (albeit remote) of sending Blackmon to a new team, now.  Under Article 6, Section 4(b) of the CBA, a drafted rookie who has not signed a contract may be traded until 30 days before the first game of the regular season.  (This year, the deadline is August 6.)  Of course, that approach would reflect the ultimate in buying high and selling low; few teams would give the Jaguars at this point anything equivalent to the value of the fifth overall pick in the draft.

But it would send one hell of a message.

Khan’s choice, whatever it may be, will provide important insight into his views regarding the team he has purchased.  Will winning overcome principal?  Or will principal be massaged in a manner conducive to winning?  A cynic may say that the final decision ultimately will be driven by the path most likely to sell tickets.

For more on the situation, along with other stuff about the team, here’s Mike Dempsey of 1010XL in Jacksonville on Monday’s PFT Live.

The first time I heard the term "pissing match" is when an agent called on at job and she said " I did not even wanna call and get in a pissing match with you." I then realized it meant debate or argument. LOL

Our local media burns me up. I just read something on Jacksonville.com and they referred to the jaguars caravan as "ticket selling caravans". Thats just ridiculos. Im sure that the Titans local media does not refer to theirs as a "ticket caravan." They are actually not even highlighting the real purpose of the caravans.

Consider the source. Another example of lazy journalism.

1:15 news conference to discuss Blackmon's DUI.

Terrible thing he did, but I sincerely hope the franchise doesn't punish the season ticket holders via a suspension.

Doubt the team will (or even can) suspend him for that.
