The more I think about how deficient our passing game was last year the more I think this offseason may have a major impact. If our passing game is just reasonably bellow average it will help the running game, time of possession and defensive field position tremendously.

Someone mentioned a few ago that Weaver originally wanted a 67,000 seat stadium but the city didn't think it would be big enough for the two big college games and went with a much larger capacity. Is this true? Just curious.

There was never any real discussion of a smaller stadium. Plans to renovate the old Gator Bowl were already underway before we were awarded the Jaguars in order to accommodate the FL-GA and Gator Bowl games. When we decided to build a new stadium entirely and were awarded the Jaguars, it was already a given that the stadium have the capacity to host the college games.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

If he wanted a 67,000 seat stadium, he sure didn't spend his own money or discuss the use of his own money on the stadium.  Bob Kraft was able to accomplish this with Gillette stadium.

Yeah, maybe Kraft had more money than the Shoe Carnival owner, but the fact remains that in this day and age in the NFL, you can build your own stadium and then be the one in charge of everything at the stadium.

^Or better yet, you can get the taxpayers to build the stadium and still be in charge of everything at the stadium, like in Baltimore.

I don't know if that is true.

Without the 70k+ seat stadium, I doubt we even get the team. The stadium was the star of the proposal from this city.

I-10east

^^^I TOTALLY disagree. The size of that stadium had nothing to do with us getting the team. Why would the NFL automatically turn Jax down because of a 64K seat stadium?

A common misconception is that Jax's strong college fandom (Gators, Noles, Bulldogs etc) helped us get the team; In fact the strong college ties HURT us from the expansion committee's POV, becuase of the obvious loyalties to those universities. The Jacksonville Bulls fans great attendance is what helped us, it even say so on wiki.

Sorry, that's nonsense. Jacksonville's historically strong support of football - including the two college games - was one major factor in the decision. It certainly didn't "hurt" us. Another major factor was that we were building a new stadium - and we were already planning this for the college games even before the expansion.

And on the size, as I said above,

Read the History of the Jacksonville Jaguars (Welcome to the NFL: 1991-94) Taca.

"For many reasons, Jacksonville was considered the darkest horse in the field (concerning getting a NFL team) Florida already had two NFL teams: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who played about a four-hour ride away, and the Miami Dolphins, who were already popular in Jacksonville and most of the state. Secondly, any expansion team would also have to compete with existing college football teams - the Florida Gators, the Florida State Seminoles, and the Miami Hurricanes- all have fairly large followings in the area. Additionally the Georgia Bulldogs have a large fan base in Jacksonville due to it's close proximity to the Georgia border"
