I come to find out fans and just humans in general want instant gratification. They want to see a Cam Newton or Andy Dalton/AJ green coming out of the gate. And that is not realistic at all for most rookies. Im in wait and see mode at this point. I dont make judgements about anything until I see the results.

Other than a meaningless playoff game against a dominant Houston team, what did these QBs produce?  A rookie TD rushing title?  Tebow could have done that if they played him in his typical FLGator position.  The Ginger produced (and I think personally he'll be a really good QB) but his main target was a rookie WR that was picked 4th in the draft because of his playmaking ability in college.

Exactly. Thats what people want. Just as you stated, to me it means nothing inthe grand scheme of things.

^^^Well said yall. Far as I'm concerned, all of the last year's rookie QB's still are learning the nuisances of the pro game; The national media acts as if Cam, and Andy are sure shot elite QB's already. It's not just Blaine that's 'learning' contrary to popular belief.

Did yall hear what Jerome Bettis said about Timmy; He said he don't think that the Jets is a good fit for him; Bettis was in town at some event. I honestly can't think of any current QB spot for the Big Apple Messiah. BTW, Bettis is still on my s@*t list for talking about the Jags, saying they are gonna move to LA.

What is funny is that everyone in NY that was saying Tebow was a crappy QB, are now saying " He's a winning QB." Im to the point I dont believe nothing anyone says in the NFL. They lie just as much as politicians, if not more.

Really? All my UF friends in NYC have always thought he was the next best thing to the messiah.

Yes! For some reason I thought the pants were teal, too. I just remember how bad it looked when they unveiled it. And the model they used clearly wasn't a football player, so he looked really skinny and like he was dressed up for Halloween.

The first person I saw wearing the uniform as a model was Wayne Weaver's brother Ron, who was wearing it over a business suit.  The effect wasn't any better than for whatever model you saw, I'm sure.

From what I remember too, the first jerseys they sold in stores (before the change after the lawsuit) were black. I had a few friends in school that had black #95 jerseys in 93/94. So I wonder if the original jersey was panned so much that they changed it even without the lawsuit.

It's official, DE back on the mind of the honorable Gene Smith:

From the Times Union 3/29/2012
QuoteJaguars general manager Gene Smith said he is prepared to look to the draft for a defensive end.

Despite some of you guys' perceived "Trust in Gene" feelings, I'm not on that bandwagon. This draft will be a make or break year with Gene. He better hope that Blaine has a drastic improvement from last year and considering that's 'HIS' guy, he should be focused on giving him some real WR's to throw to.

Since Mr. Khan isn't necessarily tied to Gene, he will be operating under a shorter leash than Gene was operating under Mr. Weaver. I do hope Blaine turns out being a good QB, but I'm glad we were smart enough to grab at least a decent backup QB. We should have never gone multiple seasons with Luke McCown and Todd Bouman as our backup QB's. It still amazes me that during the history of the team, we've yet to DRAFT a great wide receiver. That's kinda unheard of.

Well I think Gene is of the mindset in that if Blackmon is gone, he's going to draft a DE and hope a WR falls to us in the second round. Hopefully Baylor's or Georgia Tech's WR is there when we draft in the second round. Unless we trade down out of the 7th spot, most of the WR's will be a reach at that pick. I do hope we end up with one of those 4 guys though (Blackmon, Floyd, Wright, Hill).

Non-RedNeck Westsider

Comn, why do you think Floyd would be a reach at 7?  He's bigger, taller and just as fast as Blackmon.  He comes from a pro-style offense.  His only downside from the GM's perspective is his DUI arrest.

Hill from GT is bad, he has hands made of bricks, he dropped so many easy passes last year, the coaches paid him to leave early. Don't know about Baylor's receiver, but Baylor had a heckuva QB, so he had to have someone catch the ball, again, something foreign to Hill at Tech.

Without Blackmon, a real game changer on the potential level of a Calvin Johnson or at the least AJ Green, I don't see us finding a real #1 receiver.  Blackmon could be gone by #4, so we may never see him.

If Coples is available, at 6-6, he would be a force on the end, we'd have him for 4-5 years, and, (I can't believe I am saying this) yeah, we should take him, because he would be the most talented at #7 and we have a need for him on the end. Yes, I picked Defense today, because Offense was yesterday.

Yeah really I just don't think Gene would draft him, so I didn't really consider him a realistic pick but Gene might prove me wrong.

Agreed, nice guys, but really they could probably do better in the CFL or some other league, maybe start consistently. We drafted a QB to be a WR and we drafted a AJ Soward WR who proceeded to be a real problem off the field and then we drafted Reggie Williams who was a Bust of a WR in the NFL. None of those were on Smith, officially, but he has not gone to the well for a WR on his watch as #1, and I doubt he will do so again, unless Blackmon is there, but I don't think he will be there.

This is hard to imagine, but I'm going to disagree with you.   :D

From what I've read and little bit I've seen, Floyd seems to be the better pick at WR.

I wouldn't hold out for Coples either.  Ingram has outshined him in every way and he isn't getting the 'took year off' tag that Coples is getting.

For some reason, Claiborne might be available, so that's still a possibility.

And I wouldn't be totally surprised if we ended up with Reiff, but that would be assuming the 3 above are already gone and no one wants to trade up.

Well Gene's 2009 draft class I can't really complain about. Most of those guys are still on the team for one reason or another (Monroe, Britton, Knighton, Cox, Thomas, Dillard (will be gone), Zach Miller, Jennings, Underwood (gone)). The 2010 draft is kind of a wash. We have Tyson, but the rest of those guys are garbage. D'Anthony Smith, Larry Hart, Austen Lane, Karim, McGee (cut). Deji probably lost his spot last year to the backup RB we signed late in the year, so I'd be surprised if he's back. Jury is still out on the '11 draft though.

In 3 years Gene hasn't drafted a WR above the 4th round. Thomas was 4th round in 09 and Cecil Shorts 4th round last year. Hopefully he pulls the trigger on a WR before the 4th round this year. As bad as Shack Harris' WR's were, at least they were semi-productive. Williams, Sims Walker, Wilford... Most of those guys were drafted high. It's hilarious in hindsight when you think about the fact we drafted Reggie Williams and Matt Jones in back to back years the first round.

Another fun fact, we've only drafted 9 Pro Bowlers ever... And David Garrard being on that list is kinda suspect. I still love my Jags though.
