Truly disgusting Twitter meltdown by Shannon Sharpe against Jacksonville and the Jaguars this afternoon.

A man with such a large public platform should be ashamed of himself for talking like this in 2015.

Apparently this is a habit. Obvious no one takes him seriously or some suit in NYC would be on him.

If you watch some NFL on CBS during comment time Boomer is usually rolling his eyes and Cowher counters him.

Shannon seems to have forgotten just how business the NFL is now. Team loyalty is great but it can't be maintained through cost cutting. NFL is a career that can end in a day. JT was wise to jump on it, regardless of who the team is.

If JT had signed with anyone else for the same dough, would he be making the same rant?

I don't get it.  We all want 'real'-ness out of people, but when we get it, then it's pitch-forks and torches time?  As long as it's not physically threatening (even if more than likely in jest - google Schilling Twitter) then let it fly.

I love it when we get the real person, no matter how dumb or racist or schoolyard it is, c'mon...

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

I think it was Cris Carter said, "The only things you can take away from this game are money and memories. Get as much of both as you can." Don't blame JT one bit, nor did I blame MJD when he left last year.

Yeah, but the 'realness' always seems to be a slight against our city and the Jags organization. I have ZERO problems with Jags fans tearing Shannon a new one. Don't act like this is Sharpe's first rodeo with dissing Jax. I'm sorry, but a Jaxon sticking up for the 'notorious to Jax' national media is unacceptable. It's Jacksonville VS Everybody, remember that!!!

Bingo!!! If JT would've went to his rival Raiders (a team with the same record as the Jags) Sharpe wouldn't have said any slights against the Raiders.

It's a business. No one goes crazy when the fry engineer leaves McDonalds for a better job at Five Guys. A player's time in the NFL is pretty limited. It's a sport where 35 is considered over-the-hill. Screw team loyalty. Take the money and run.

But the players and coaches expect loyalty during the season. Entire cities rally behind their teams. It's not at all analogous to McDonalds and Five Guys. I get both sides of this. It's a weird situation that demands loyalty during "combat" but requires larger perspective at other times...hard to have that on/off switch.

The NFL contract is by far one of the worst contracts in sports.

Not only is it arguably the most physically tolling sport, a career-ending injury is just a snap away (or a celebration away if you're a defensive lineman, but you're only guaranteed the money that you get up front.  Even the base salaries have an effective on/off date for guarantee payment for veterans and a majority of the money isn't guaranteed for injury.

So hell yes.  I would put an opportunity for earning a sizeable paycheck in the future higher up the ladder than playing today on an injury that might hurt those chances when I've already demonstrated that I can perform.

If you want the players to show some "team loyalty", then have the teams show some "player loyalty" by guaranteeing the full amount of the contract.

Not to get too far off the reservation but a good example of "loyalty" by a pro sports team is when Duke guard Jay Williams wrapped a motorcycle around a pole and almost died ruining his leg.

By doing this he was violating his contract with the Chicago Bulls.

The Bulls could have walked away, but they didnt. They honored that year of the contract, waited until he could finish rehab to see what his status was.

So some teams will try to make good on their arrangements.

In JT's case he was injured alot at the beginning but the Broncos didnt cut him or offer an injury settlement. They waited until he got healthy and they were rewarded with alot of output.

I think this is the "loyalty" Shannon is looking for.

From Caldwell at the news conference when asked about Demarco Murray coming to Jax, "I don't have a good feeling about it now". But they went for it!

I'm listening to the press conference with Jared Odrick, and this guy definitely isn't lacking in charisma. Pretty funny guy too.

Yeah, Caldwell is doing the right thing. Sure the Jags have to overpay to get Murray to leave Dallas, but I wouldn't sell the farm to get a RB.

Would not be surprised now if we go after a WR in the draft. Cooper or White.
