That would be cool. Hopefully not another Porter situation, though

That sounds about right. A small one year contract is not risky at all.

Agreed. That and if he can stay healthy.

It's going to be more along the lines of a Torrey Holt signing if anything.

or for that matter, Lee Evans Ravens situation

Well Lee isn't as old as Torrey was when he signed with the Jags, at least I don't think so. Maybe Lee Evans will come in and show he can still play after not doing a dang thing out in Baltimore. Depending on who we draft at WR, he'll at least have a chance to break into the top 3 rotation of WR's.

If his ankle is solid, we pick up a smallish speed guy on the outside.  I would imagine they saw him run before signing him, but based on his declining production were reluctant to give him a multi-year deal.  I love the 1yr deals that we're handing out there for the veterans who need '1 more shot' to prove that they're really back and still able to play at a high level.  It makes it a contract year, and we all know how well people play for their contracts....

At the worst, we end up with another aged veteran that can't play, but has been a solid locker room guy his entire career.  I haven't read or heard anything that tells me otherwise.  And we didn't break the bank for him.

Me wonders if coach Jerry Sullivan (side thought:  can you call a black guy, Sully?  Seems like that nickname should only be for ginger-haired Irishmen.  Anyhow....) had anything to do with this?  I couldn't find a link between coach sullivan and evans because all there was a reporter in buffalo, 'Jerry Sullivan', so I was tired of digging.

I think he will be decent. Everyone seems to forget that he coming off an injury and wasnt playing at a very high level. I think he will be decent in the mix. Him and Robinson are very fast, which was something that we lacked in our WR core. Thats better for Gabbert also. He throws the ball hard and fast so WR's with speed is good.

I have one question though? What is the beef everyone has with our defense? Im keep reading comments like " Why would we resign players from a 5-11 team." Umm hello, our defense was in the top 5 all season long. We do need a DE and better depth in the secondary, but other than that why would someone complain about a unit that played at such a high level? When you have a unit playing that well, you want to keep as many of them as possiable. You see how it bit us in the ass in 2008. We had a rock solid team (Iffy WR's thought aside from Jimmy). And what did we do? Completey tear it down, let players go, sign several bust during free angency and 5-11 season following after a play off run. If it aint broke, dont fix it.

I don't see how anyone can complain about our moves on defense. Other than drafting a DE, I think our draft should be all about offense though.

You know I was reading the ignorant comments on Jaguars.com and somebody sent a email asking this question. Ive seen the comment on other sites as well. One thing this team has lacked is consistency. We have went through players and coaches like underwear during the Del Rio era. There is no way we can function that way. That is like a department changing managers and employees every six month. You get absolutely no where like. Us keeping our defense was a very good sign to me.

Agreed. Other than replacing Sheen at some point, our defense should be kept together as long as possible. Also it was great that we were able to hold onto our D. Coordinator. So hopefully our defensive playbook should stay relatively the same, which will be great for the defensive players since they don't have to learn an entirely new scheme from scratch.

On the other hand the offense will, but aside from Mojo, whatever we were doing on offense definitely wasn't working anyway.

DD08 - Our D was tops last year, but just as our Offense was 15th the tear before and was dead last in 2011, do not expect our D to be top 5 again this year, without a major pass rusher. Knighton will suck when he returns, the Jags put a Nutritionist with him, which to me means, they are afraid he is going to eat his way through his injury, and then return and be out of shape and a bust. This is his last year, and I do not expect him to return and be the same player. That said, we will need a backup for him as well as a stud DE.

Great we picked up Evans, and he should help Gabbert with options. But just as we appear to be getting better in Offense, so too shall teams get better on Defense. I see us as a top 10 team with a similar draft that Smith did last year, maybe we can be top 5, if we find some pass rushers.

Just like financial people say, "Past performance is no indication of future returns". Don't rest your D on the numbers from last year, teams change and they always get better, so if you do nothing, you will fall.

^ Debbie Downer... The defense will be fine this year. I predict they'll rank around the same if not better actually. They've added quality depth to the secondary and resigned key players. On top of that, it's another year of working in Mel Tucker's scheme. Keep in mind last year was the first year that Tucker actually completely controlled the defense. Also IF the offense improves, that in turn will help your defensive stats. The more time the offense can move the ball and eat up clock, that's less yards that someone is putting up on your defense.

Lastly, I think Pot Roast will be fine whenever he returns. Money is a hell of a motivator. No one in their right mind would not be inspired by the opportunity of a big pay day on their immediate horizon. Going from making a couple of hundred thousands of dollars to making millions is a HUGE difference.
