Ahhhh, the good ol' days....

This is my version of Coach Vic's pregame speech:

Football is a tough game for tough guys.  We need to show up today with FULL CONSISTENCYwin the battle of turnover, and run the ball, stop the run.  Guys, you've gotta understand that this game is about human confrontation and we're not going to take what they give us.  We're gonna take what we want!  It's all about players, not plays and I'm telling you men sitting here today, before we head out onto that field and compete, Just win, Baby!

A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Game plays are all a matter of timing and being a split second ahead of the opposing teams response. As mentioned earlier, firing the ball at a predetermined point and knowing that the receiver will be there proactively and not just waiting for a lob, should make all the difference in yardage gains. It works the same way on running plays. The blocks are placed in such a way that the ball carrier knows that if he zigs then zags the preset pattern he's through the defense wall. The coaches should watch a few soccer games and see how it's done at high speed, not the ready, set, go of American football.
