Brown aides sparring anew over beltway, this time with Scott

By Matt Dixon

For the second time in a week, Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown is pushing back against statements that he supports a plan to turn the First Coast Outer Beltway into a toll road. This time the claim emanated from Gov. Rick Scott.

I like it but I am not hoping for Scott v Brown animosity.

Brown isn't opposed to building a beltway that will be subsidized permanently by Ducal County to facilitate sprawl in Clay at our economic expense. He just doesn't agree with the way its being funded. As for Scott's and FDOT's threats, I'd call their bluff. Him not supporting Jax will only speed up his exit out of Tallahassee. Oh yeah, where is Tucker and the Tea Party on this fiscal disaster?

^There's no way to speed up Rick Scott's exit, short of impeaching him or the like. No matter how unpopular he is, we've got him for the next three years. The worst case scenario here is that Brown manages to sour his necessary working relationship with Scott but not manage to prevent the beltway from getting built.

QuoteScott also said that Brown's initial public pushback could affect the flow of state dollars to Northeast Florida.

"If he's against projects like that ... I'll tell [FDOT head] Ananth Prasad ... don't go spend your time here."

Scott making such a absurd statement proves once and for all that his head is hidden deep inside his nether regions.

Projects like what Governor Scott?  You mean transportation projects that will NOT MAKE MONEY and will remain an incredibly expensive monkey on the taxpayers back?  Are you not from the same party that continues to bark at Amtrak because though it carries millions of passengers annually...IT DOES'NT MAKE MONEY?  Isn't this the party that believes that privately built, tax paying, railroad tracks should not get a dime of federal money to carry passengers because IT DOES'NT MAKE MONEY? Rick, I've got a thought for you, TRAINS MOVE PEOPLE AND TOLL ROADS MOVE CARS, its easy to see which one ranks higher with you.  Go ahead and leave Duval Rick, take the elephant and flea circus you rode in on with you, we'll see you in 3 years begging.

To the fools in Clay that think a road is going to cure your traffic and growth troubles consider as it is today you can take Brannon Field-Chafee Road from Middleburg to Cecil Field. Hundreds of millions of dollars later, according to your wisdom, you'll be able to take the same damn road from Middleburg to Cecil Field, only then, you'll have to pay dearly for it.

TIME TO PULL YOUR HEADS OUT IN CLAY AND TALLAHASSEE.

I was implying that there is no way he would be reelected without Jax's support.

FDOT Lake City staff often exhibited concerns with the Beltway proposal way back when/PD&I era.
After all, they, the true professionals, where acting upon the direction of Local Government joined at the hip with speculative, not because "The DOT wants it".
there was discernment, scrutiny and an emerging  awareness of the need for Holistic coordination with other state agencies.

Under the Scott revolution, which is simply another chapter of a certain Narrative, the system has been yanked from the arms of the citizen, effective governance.

The very most honorable and beneficial action a leader could take would be to refrain from caving in to Scott DOT politics.
Real life imaginary game of Chicken, right down the imaginary Beltway centerline.Bad deals get worse-Scott will suffer a blowout.

sorry, but FDOT Lake City DOT staff have been in lock step with the beltway for at least 5 years now.

Certainly.Note reference to PD&I(or is it PD&E?) era.Ten years or so.Imagine!
Doesn't take too long for any Beltway event to become lost in the rear view mirror.

Events during the past five years simply the tip of the tail of the Beltway creature.

Who here recalls the fairly recent Clay county promotion of typical multiple intersection non limited access roadway within the corridor in the face of lack of Limited Access/ Beltway prospects?
