What changes would you like to see at the 5 Points Theatre?

@Climber
Tim and I actually met working behind the concession counter at the San Marco!  We know that installation of even a small kitchen is going to be a big part of what makes this theatre sustainable in the long term.  Imagine the size and scope of the San Marco menu (a limited selection of housemade sandwiches, pizzas, quesadillas and nachos), but with a emphasis on fresh, local, quality ingredients.

Here's another idea for food...

Riverside/Avondale is KNOWN for it's micro-breweries. Definitely should stock some of the local brews.

Also, consider having nights where you invite the local eateries to "host" the fare. They build their customer base and you highlight what is wonderful about 5 Points.

You know, we were playing with the idea of having ONLY local brews on tap.  If a person wants Miller Light they'd have to order a bottle.  Think that would go over?

The locals only brew ales right now.  You will need some good micro-brew lagers too or just keep the Stellas

Any chance you might still occasionally book live music in the theater?  I caught the recent Junip concert there and it really is a nice little venue for that sort of thing.  For one, it was nice to be able to actually sit, a luxury generally not afforded by places like Freebird, and for another it's actually a pretty decent venue for music -- one of the better small venues in town I think.  I was really pleasantly surprised.

Oh, and thumbs up on reopening the outdoor ticket kiosk.  I think you'd get a lot more wallkup traffic buying tickets.

I think a local brews only policy would definitely go over. Definitely buy you some local cred right off the bat. The thing to worry about is turning off more people than you appeal to.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

What's wrong with having 20-30 taps? With proper CO levels, the beer will stay fresh.

Please repaint the interior so it highlights the remaining architectural details. For some reason, it ended up looking like a sterile hospital waiting room in the last reincarnation. All white and drab. It should be a beautiful, historic space. Thanks!

We've been out of Jacksonville for the last three years, the time in which this local brew revolution started.  It's been awesome to come back and we'd love to be a part of it.

@ubben
Hospital waiting room is precisely the term I use when describing the interior!  We plan to rip up the carpet and absolutely do something fantastic with that wall space.

@mtraininjax
Absolutely nothing wrong with 20-30 taps, right now there simply isn't the room for them though.  After future construction? Entirely possible.

@tachachale
I think if we do a focus on local brews (@Dog Walker your tip on lagers is a great one) but still offer imported and the domestics folks are accustomed to we won't tick anyone off too much.  I'm especially psyched about the Intuition Stout Float we'll be offering.

Please y'all visit our site if you haven't done so already!  We're offering great deals for folks who pre-pay for a couple of movie tickets in order to raise startup costs:  ulule.com/5pointstheatre

We're moving toward our goal but have a ways to go before we'll be able to make these upgrades.

Here's an update:

In August, Tim Massett went looking for money to renovate the historic 5 Points Theatre, a focal point in the Riverside neighborhood. In less than two months he found the money he needed â€" and then some.

The lease agreement isn’t final yet. But if it gets signed, plans call for the single-screen cinema to close in November and open by Dec. 1 as the Sun-Ray Cinema at 5 Points Theatre.

I wish they'd keep the name as the 5 Points Theater.

Same

Don't really understand the logic of changing the name. Almost depersonalizes it.
