QuoteFlorio told you an hour ago that Peyton Manning’s surgery could happen as early as Thursday.  We can now tell you that surgery is complete.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports Manning had cervical fusion surgery, which wrapped up this afternoon.  The expected recovery is 2-3 months, although we’ve seen with this injury how tricky it is to put a timeline on anything.  There is no plan for Manning to go on I.R.

Manning reportedly consulted with a half-dozen doctors who came up with the solution to get cervical neck fusion.

A timeline to return is just a guess.  Indianapolis had no idea how Manning would respond to his last surgery.  After delays, he tried to practice lightly for a week.  That caused a setback, back pain, and further surgery.  No one can truly know at this point where this goes from here.

“He’s been on the clock since May,” Archie Manning said of his son to Mort. “He didn’t make it. Obviously, it’s a big letdown, but he can relax a little bit compared to the intensity of everything he has done trying to rehab.”

It sounds like the Colts will hold out hope that Manning can return this season, but the landscape of the AFC South has clearly changed.

It’s up to Kerry Collins and company to keep the Colts afloat in the meantime.  We have our doubts they can do so.

Even if Manning was able to play again this season, it could be too late to make a difference.

The AFC South is the new NFC West - 8-8 could mean the playoffs.

Too bad Manning's surgery wasn't last year. :-\

I was thinking the same thing. the division is for grabs this year and it may not take much to win it. The once tough afc south is going down in flames LOL Texans may get it together this year. They may be our only competition if they do. Because a peyton-less Colts team is not making it to the play offs.

Wow where is your crystal ball and can I use it? Because if  you can predict the outcome for the season based on one game, you are a bad boy! Miss Cleo must be your best friend  :P

Even though I want Del Rio gone, bad drafting and injuries have played alot into the past few years for our Jags. One of Weaver's biggest mistakes were the extension and contracts given to Del Rio and Garrard. Both who should have been gone in 09 IMO. I hope Luke can play well b/c if ever there was a time to steal an AFC  South crown this is certainly it. If Luke can stay healthy and the O-line plays well you would think we would be OK. DG will be missed on those short 3rd downs and 4th and 1. I think that's were his running ability became a real strength. On paper our schedule appear to be rough and tough,,we will seeeee!!! I'll be there Sunday Go Jags!!!

duvaldude08

We shall see. Because if the Saints keep playing the way they did last night, we might beat them. GB was running rampant through their defense and GB really isnt a running team like that. I was disappointed in the Saints. Thats my other adopted team.

But I agree Keith. The past few years was not Del rio's fault really. EVerything was going good until the bad drafting took its toll on us. But he can use that excuse anymore. So its do or die Del Rio! Lets play some ball!

duvaldude08

Offensively.. Yes they can beat us. But then again, if our new defensive plays up to their potential, it can be a very tight game. IMO, their defense was Garbage last night. Giving up 42 point is not a good look for anyones defense.

Good point Keith on the weakness of the AFC South. We can sneak a title here.

Hmmm........

Might as well roll the rookie out there.

Anyone is better than McCown. He has been horrible! 0 TD and 4 INT! I was thinking we could win this because of how we played last week, but they looks like the same Jaguars. Cutting Garrard was a huge mistake.

duvaldude08

Garrad is not better than Luke. Garrad has done the same thing last year when we played the browns. Actually I think Garrad threw more than four if Im not mistaken. We have been severed several blow outs under Garrad. So I am used to losing this way. LMAO  We've been hiding our QB issues behind the run game and it has caught up with us. I was already prepared for a disappointing season. Its part of being a fan. I will endure a losing season to get our shit straight. WW is having a cow right now. I also think that Del Rio is going to be gone soon. Look for Dirk to be the head coach soon......

FYI- Cox, Lewis and hill being injured didn't help so much either. We were doomed going into this game.

Garrad has played the same way. Trust me. He was no better. We have to take a Que from Carolina and start the Rookie. Weve rolled the dice so far might as well keep rolling.
