A train trip to Winter Park is like none other in the State of Florida. The AMTRAK depot sits in the center of a city park in a very alive, upscale and exclusive downtown business district. Step off the train in gardens, and walk 1/2 block to some of the highest rated restaurants in Central Florida, afterwhich we all migrate back to the train station for the return trip...oh and yes the Lounge Car will be open.

Yeah, it's for real folks, we're exploring the idea of taking single day trips out and back to some of the surrounding areas. The earliest trips would probably be sometime in October. Group rates make it affordable and it gives us a chance to mingle. Please share your thoughts.

This is a great idea. My wife and I did this trip about five or six years ago, and we had a great time.

Count the two of us in, Ock.  If Winter Park, Saturday is better than Sunday when some of the stores are closed.

I'd participate. Winter Park is a destination for me that would be a real tourist trip.

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

I'd be game. I always wanted to ride a train.  :D

Since Ock picked the least flattering photo of Winter Park ever taken in the history of mankind, here is a photo tour of the area: http://www.metrojacksonville.com/article/2011-feb-urban-connectivity-winter-park

My wife and I are game if it is on a Saturday. We were just thinking about taking Amtrak to Miami for a cruise as opposed to flying or driving and this would be a wonderful test run.

You are right, just the late hour and couldn't find the ones I wanted. I've inserted two new photos but nothing as good as the classic shot I'm looking for. I'll keep digging and perhaps adding.

Winter Park's Amtrak station actual sucks as far as looks go. It's the surrounding context that makes the place special.

Same can be said of Hogans Creek, The Pier, Mccoys Creek, the surrounding context that makes the place special.
Lake, keep thinking singles. Who is ready to announce the still unidentifiable structure next to the casket factory and behind the old St. Lukes Hospital?

Lol, I suggested this to Stephen a year ago. Finding the time to do it proved another story.
