Mayor Alvin Brown releases transition reports

The eighteen transition committees set up by Mayor Alvin Brown released reports today that included about 300 recommendations for changing city government.

They're available on the city's website here.

The reports examine city government procedures and look for ways to make them more efficient.

"It is an absolute treasure trove of work," said Peter Rummell, a co-chair of the transition effort. He said the ideas grew from 3,800 hours of meetings that involved 217 volunteers and about 125 city staff and subject experts.

"I was a little skeptical of this effort when it started," Rummell said, this morning, but added "I'm delighted with the end product."

Many of the volunteers are expected to reconvene in six moths to update how Brown's administration has addressed the issues.

"I want to continue this great energy and enthusiasm," Brown told dozens of people who gathered for a short ceremony marking the transition group's handoff of its work.

Brown pointed to his recruitment of a chief education officer and job-creation team as examples of transition proposals that his office has already pursued. He said committee proposals for reforming the city's pension system will be a subject of ongoing effort.
