An aquarium would be cool . I would definately take my niece and nephew. Thats a very family oriented attraction that would be great for DT

I really wonder how many people would come to Downtown for that. I guess it might be interesting for families with young children though. However isn't a Carrier one of those things that if you've seen it once, how much is it going to change the next time you consider going? An aquarium would be great though, just seems that would have a wider appeal.

I hope they can pull this off. They are right about it being noticeable from I-95. We saw the one in Mobile and decided to get off the interstate and check it out.

I think the ship musem would draw alot of vistors.  If I were visting Jacksonville, I would stop in and check it out just because. Tourist will check out anything. Thats part of being a tourist. You just go explore.

IF this project becomes a reality...I think the ship should be lit with lights at night like the main street bridge. It attracts the eyes.

It's so small you probably would have a difficult time seeing it from I-95 with the Acosta Bridge blocking it.  I wish these guys the best but I don't think the ship will be a huge draw alone.  It's one of those things that really needs to be clustered with some other uses to send more people its way.  Btw, I wonder how they are going to make money off this ship?

Charleston's Patriot's Point is a major attraction and it barely breaks even, mainly because they haven't done the maintenance that they should have been doing.  Btw, they also have a golf course to generate revenue that they use for the Yorktown's annual costs.

I'm not opposed to the musuem as long as public money is not used.  I have my doubts at this point.  They haven't raised ANYWHERE near the money needed for this endeavour and three sentences inserted into the last legislation about the Adams that essentially opens the door for public money worries me.

But let's be honest
QuoteBean said the group estimated attendance at 120,000 visitors per year with an economic impact of more than $3 million.

120,000 visitors is a pretty inflated number no matter which way you slice it then double your slices.  The convention center drew 147,889 visitors in 2009.  All galleries and museums in aggregate in all of the core drew 243,607 in 2009.  Metro Park drew 151,500 in 2009.

And this is a little disengenious
QuoteThe Adams is at the Philadelphia Navy Yard and the association wants to raise $9 million to bring the 437-foot warship to Jacksonville as a floating museum and tourist attraction.

So the number went from $50 million to $9 million in less than a week?  I know gas prices went down last week but, what happened to that cost estimate?

We've been down this road with the Saratoga before.  Let's be a little more cautious this time and learn from the mistakes of the past.

I don't think it will draw 120,000 visitors, but I really think this will be successful.

I agree. I was in Baltimore a few years back and they had a submarine on the harbor you could tour. It was right downtown next to the aquarium, the Hard Rock Cafe and down the steet from the baseball and football stadiums.
