Will he loose his seat at the next election? He seems really lost and should'nt be in congress at all...is this really what republicans like? Is this the best the republicans can come up with?

BridgeTroll

I hope not... loose seats are dangerous... :)
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Thats pretty funny.  I would take Boener over Reid or Pelosi any day.  Pelosi/Reid exude intelligence and leadership qualities, right?  Not.  Why not a post titled Reid/Pelosi, or Obamma for that matter and ask where the Democrats went wrong?   Are they the best Democrats you guys can come up with?  God, i hope not.  I am sure you guys are going to get the blank check you want, one way or another.  So stop worrying.

Republicans hate Pelosi because she got things done. She was amazing. SORRY RM HOWARD BUT I LOVE PELOSI.Boehner is a typical Republican. He was a life long Democrat until he became RICH.  At that point he decided he didn't want to pay taxes, so he became a Republican. So typical. So greedy.

RiversideLoki

Well, one thing's for sure. Boehner's hard leadership sure has definitely gone flaccid.

....and another thing....
They tend to take advantage of the very SOCIAL programs that they campaign against, and then they want to kill them. What total hypocrites. So many hard core Conservatives have greatly benefited from some of the safety net programs, Rick Scott's family for one, and now they despise that other needy people can make it through hard times by the very same programs. It makes me want to puke....

I really feel that Boehner is conflicted.  I think he might be a little to center for the party he is fighting with....so yeah he will lose his seat.  They will make sure of that.  Unless he is a babbling right extremist, they will not have anything to do with him.  Honestly I think he is more levelheaded in trying to come up with an agreement than most in his corner.

I agree with this - I think he's having a trouble keeping his people in line nevertheless. This will probably result in a republican thrashing in a few seats, and most likely the white house at the rate the GOP is going.

He seems like an ok guy who is trying to herd a cast of the Looney Toons into a room to vote for a budget that is going to get vetoed anyways.

I just don't get why he is expending the energy.  He is making himself look like a fool to the rigth wing of this party and and he looks like an onstacle to centerists and democrats.

Reid just looks lost and irrelevant right now.

If we compared this to a sympthony, it looks like the differenct members of the house got together in groups and are playing completely different songs that the same time, facing a bunch of senators who are playing a bunch of other instruments  directly right back at the house.  The president appears to want to be the conductor, but none of the musicians are having it.  We, the audience will suffer great financial consequences of having to sit here and hear all this non-sense..

you like looking at an orange?

btw...avonjax...this is one Democrat that's not a big fan of Pelosi (or Reid for that matter)...in fact, she's partially to blame for the 2010 Republican takeover in the House.

Pelosi? I'd hit it...

Imo predict: Last second deal gits did.

Hedge fund managers have been shorting all day, and will continue right up until the announcement of a deal.

Stocks will soar right after the preferred managers get the word and act on the early buy. Gold and silver dip.

Theeennnn: The piper still needs to be paid. Stocks fall, gold and silver spike as the economy suffers.

There is no easy solution here kids. Raise taxes? Yes. Cut spending? Yes. President Obama said it's time to take our medicand it is. Yes, some will get away even richer than before. (real reforms needed in how markets are moved. I'm not smart enough to know what reforms are needed, but when bankers can bet (and manipulate via the fed) against businesses and even our own government (which is to say TAXPAYERS AND THEIR GRANDCHILDREN) reform is needed.

If Boehner is gone, that probably means Cantor will take over.  From what I hear, Cantor is much more willing to cater to the Tea Party portion of the Republican party.  From the inside news report, it sounds like not only does Boehner have to control his party, he also has to keep his second in command in line as well so he's pretty much doing everything by himself.

Could you guys articulate what "tea party" goals it is that you are against?  I mean specifically.  From Wikipedia:

The Tea Party movement (TPM) is an American populist[1][2][3] political movement that is generally recognized as conservative and libertarian,[4][5] and has sponsored protests and supported political candidates since 2009.[6][7][8] It endorses reduced government spending,[9][10] opposition to taxation in varying degrees,[10] reduction of the national debt and federal budget deficit,[9] and adherence to an originalist interpretation of the United States Constitution.[11]

The Tea Party is placing their "opinion" ahead of everything else. They are not governing at all. So far their official position is:

"Give us everything we want or go to hell."

That is not governing. Even SC Sen Lindsay Graham noted as much 8 months ago when he noted they might have difficulty getting anything done.

They represent a fraction of our population, not a majority. Their voice needs to be heard, but the history of our country (and our government) is one of negotiation.  And in this instance, they have gotten most of what they want. They now need to move toward the position that a majority of Americans hold,: in return for some significant spending cuts, some increases in tax revenue are appropriate.
