To me "the core" speaks to a larger area than the defined limits of Bay to Adams, Liberty to Ocean.

I know we use the term urban core to describe the entire downtown area from La Villa to the shipyards... but I think by simply mentioning "the core" most people could visualize the more central "entertainment district.

The idea of "The Core" plays with:

- A centralized spot
- Heart/Soul of the something
- The one and only
- The center of all raw energy
- An exclusive attraction
- You build it, they will come.
- Excitement building up in a tight place
- The Beacon - Providing the light as the guide to social freedom
- And whatever on your brain.

Yeah... what he said...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

"The Core" is my favorite-but if we are really trying to describe the area we are talking about why not "parking lot disctrict" or "empty lot district" or "parking meter district"

Not quite positive enough.  How about "Hot Pink Parking Lot District!!"  or "Bring lotsa quarters district"...

I think it should be the Jacksonville Entertainment District and call it a day. Throw up signs indicating where it begins and ends. Case closed.  :P

Naming of the district should be an organic process as it develops. Forcing a label results in something ridiculously faux sounding.

It could be called J-E-D for short and have images of Buddy Ebsen as Jed Clampett for the symbol:

So do we want to have another abbreviation added to a painful list of other abbreviations in Jacksonville:

JED
JTA
JEDC
JEA
JIA
COJ
DDA
JPA
...

Jacksonville - Home of The Abbreviations! - JHA

Wait, you mean we're not the bold, new city of the south?

So...

BAY TREE DISTRICT IT IS!

I am so SOLD on the name. Seriously. Drop the guesswork and go with Bay Tree District. We can compete with Orange Park and beat them easily by wide margin.

Except that it applies to bay street, based on the origin of the name, and there aren't any bay trees left down there. ;)

Wouldn't be too hard to fix the Bay Tree absence.
