Downtown is looking pretty good today

I had a friend come downtown today from Arlington, and she commented how much nicer downtown seemed to look. Of course they're in the process of spending a sizable chunk of change for the Jazz Festival, but it does look nice.

There are new trees and pleasant smelling mulch on Laura Street near La Cena and the Old Church. I really like the kiosks (I know there have been complaints) on each street corner. One dissapointment is that I don't see the Jacobs Jeweler historic clock anymore, nor do I see a base for it anymore. I really thought that was a neat looking piece downtown and am not sure what the plans are for it (if any), but I'd be surprised if it just ended up in a basement. It's too beautiful not to display.

Preperation for the Jazz Festival are well underweay with huge posters hanging from the Skyway station in Hemming Plaza, and different garages includng mine at 11 E. The park is filled with flowers and I think it's going to be a good event this year.

There seem to be more police, security, and ambassadors downtown as well. I was this could be monthly instead of yearly, but beggars can't be choosers.

Anyway. It should be a great memorial day weekend down here. Looking forward to it. Hope to see some of you.

No worries about the clock.  It will return.  I forget whether it was just temporarily removed for the streetscaping, being cleaned up/repaired, or both.  But it's definitely coming back.
The tourist would realize at once that he had struck the Land of Flowers - the City Beautiful!

it was removed for an overhaul as well

Presumably it will work now?
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

Hey the heck if I know. But it was on the news a few weeks back that they took it down to re-do. I assume it will be worked

Well that's good news to hear. Keeps us from having to do the cliche Back to the Future "save the clock tower" routine.

I was Downtown today taking someone from St Johns on the Skyway. It did look good Downtown today. My cohort commented on how crowded the Skyway was. He thought no one rode it!

Yes. My friend said the same thing. I think we need to get as many people from outside the core down here these next few days in an attempt to give them a different view of downtown.

I'm sort of planning to take the skyway from the san marco station for Jazz fest, since they're keeping it open late that weekend. Any advice on where to park?

^Park at the Kings Avenue station.  There are always spots available under I-95.  No need to actually park in the garage.  You just need to remember to enter the lot at the hotel and turn left before you get to the garage entrance.
