Miss Fixit

Does anyone have experience fishing at the wildlife management area on St. Augustine Road between San Marco and Lakewood?

It's too bad there is'nt a kayak rental place downtown somewhere..maybe where RAM is... i still hate the idea that the new dock is only open two days a week...but if there was a kayak place somewhere that'd make a great outlet of cityfishers...

Would you happen to know if there is anywhere in Jax that does do kayak rentals?

Thanks Josh.

A key feature with kayaks and other similar 'hand launch' vessel is their relative low cost, minimal storage hassle and transport portability and good on water performance.
Not so long ago such craft were nonexistent and their advent makes ownership possible for an expanding Navy.

Downtown rental facility would be a plus however a key need for both rental and ownership is quality hand launch access.

There have been discusssions on access facility either at YMCA or Haskell.

In the mean time, another possibility is launch at Ortega bridge.A round trip to Downtown may be too athletic for some tastes-and note also a long fetch of afternoon breeze out of the Southeast creates turbulent conditions along Riverside for some tastes (for others;Fun!- repeatedly burrying the bow of a kayak in synchronistic wave action is seductive.....) and timming the trip around the tides so that there is "push tide" is a plus.

Planning a RICO fishing trip Downtown.

Key spots are the highly PUBLIC spots with the No Fishing signs.

This can change with the DIA/CRA in the USA that is taking PUBLIC input right now.

2013-669 is an active piece of legislation that Waterways, DIA, and city council can attach an amendment to that would immediately allow for the Promised 680' Downtown Public Pier to be a Public Pier and fishing could be one use for a BOLD organic, spontaneous node of infill activity that would support a cluster of entrepreneurial energy that would add sparks to an otherwise dead zone and would tell the world to VISIT JACKSONVILLE. The opportunity was lost with 2010-604 just ask councilman Redman. There is new Waterways signage on the Waterways Downtown right now. Has it been reported anywhere? Pick and choose the winners and losers. Councilwoman Boyer nailed it at the 10/9/13 Jacksonville Waterways Commission meeting nailed it and the 7 NO to 5 YES is going to restoring the Public Trust

The total crushing of the PUBLIC TRUST.

Paul Astleford is a hero.

What was the justification for barring fishing?

Great question FWT. I don't have an answer but maybe someone else does.

Too many black people minding their own business? I mean, the city has already gone after old black guys playing chess in Hemming Plaza, right?

Riverfront Park in San Marco is just beautiful.

Especially at sunset.

Definitely beautiful...anyone know how the fishing is?? i know it gets quite crowded out there..

I can tell you, as someone who lived in a apartment across the street from the park, I grew to despise the people fishing there. They took all my parking spots, peed in the bushes, threw trash and empties and fish guts all over the place, and would not leave after dark. It was a white trash wonderland. I eventually couldn't take it anymore and moved.

Sounds alot like Mellow Mushroom...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

I will say there were also multiple condoms found on the street.

The parallels to MM are endless...
