Alvin Brown Momentum to the Finish Line

Big news this morning.  Bill Scheu has come off the fence and decided to back Alvin.  He's a major Republican about town and someone known in many circles, including having been a major supporter of Audrey Moran.  He was appointed Interim Supervisor of Elections for Duval County by Governor Bush following the death of John Stafford some years ago.

QuoteGuest column: Why Alvin Brown should be mayor

As a grieving Audrey Moran supporter, I have anguished about deciding who to vote for as our new mayor.
Candidates Alvin Brown and Mike Hogan have commendable qualities.
I had been undecided. When Hogan failed to appear at Monday night's televised forum on WJCT, I realized that Hogan's history in the mayoral campaign has been one of avoidance.

While I am a Republican and skeptical of the claims/promises of most any Democrat, I must be honest in evaluating the openness of one candidate compared to the controlled timidity of the other.

Brown, an underdog to be sure, has put himself and his views on the line; Hogan has not.

It calls to mind the one quality that any mayor must have, and that is courage. Hogan has a disappointing record when courage is a criterion.

He voted "no" on most things that required vision and risk when he served on the City Council. He was undistinguished in the Legislature.

I don't hear Hogan affirming the future, whether in terms of blessing or opportunity. He is risk-averse and not a person of hope.

Instead, he envisions only the status quo, if not going backward. What a tragic vision. What a lack of confidence in himself and in his fellow citizens.

Bill Scheu ripped a new a**hole in Hogan.

Seems the only thing Hogan is running on is that (R) next to his name.

Folks, I hate to dash cold water on your enthusiasm but it's going to take more than the Metro Jax crowd to put Alvin over the line. Lots of other people have to turn out and vote. Poll numbers are too darn close.

This is very true. As a regular reader of the site, I was under the impression that Audrey Moran was going to do a lot better than she did. There are hundreds - thousands? - of people who haven't said a word that are likely to go out and vote the party line.

Lets hope that Hogan's slightly negative campaigning backfires on he and his disciples. :)

Hogan is becoming his own worst enemy.

Having a campaign of no substance eventually catches up with you, if your opponent can stay in the hunt long enough.  It's looks like Brown is doing just that.
