QuoteAgreed! Does anyone know what they are doing? Is it just me or was it way smoother before they starting hacking away at it?!

They are doing the same thing that FDOT did on I-10 EAST from 295 to McDuff. They drill core samples to see how the pavement is holding up our use sonar on the pavement looking for pockets and go in and take square blocks out and re-pour with new material in the same night. Sort of a poor man's Laura Street, because the road is rougher than hell when they finish and causes SOME people to slow down, not me, of course I run people over and flick them the bird for driving too slow.

Oh my! You must have the most prettiest bird ever!

I heard the traffic report, did a u-turn on Timuquana and took Blanding to Cassat to I-10 instead.
Surprisingly, we all got to work and school on time despite what looked like 'the long way around'.

I drove by that mess heading south at 6:30 this morning.  I noticed that large sections of the road were MIA and was glad I wasn't heading north!  I bet that was pretty crappy about 8AM.

I hit it about 7:15 and didn't have any issues.  Everything was moving fairly smoothly.

I should clarify that I was on the roads from 8:01 - 8:25. Would've been longer if I had gone my usual Roosevelt path.

imagine your delight when the northbound lane #3 from Verona to St.Johns Ave becomes a continuous RIGHT TURN ONLY LANE and a high visibility crosswalk appears at Park St West to accompany the handrail installation south of Kent campus and ramp metering at both the SR21 merge and the frontage road south out of Murray Hill at Edgewood, Jones College toward Plymouth and Blanding.
Such modifications align with 'complete streets' despite the percieved loss of continuous green on US 17 north/south through Park St W.

If you live west of the rail, and wish to walk to FSCJ Kent Campus, how would YOU get there?
north on Hamilton all the way to Plymouth, east into the campus? probably not.
South to use the lPed X ing at St.Johns? not likely.
No bike/ped lane/sidewalk exists on the Blanding-Park connector over US17.

You might try what many unfortunately must resort to. Risk it.
Safe crossing at Park St seems to be sorely overdue.
One tiny element of good stewardship is demonstrated by the evident manifestation of anticipating needs.

How about a deceleration/stacking/turn lane from southbound US17 onto Park St West?
anybody?
bueller?

Ricker, for some reason that I can't fathom, the incident of the old Publix shopping center on the Arlington Expressway just popped into my mind. I know the two aren't even in the same league.. but when I was a kid, that publix shopping center was HOPPING mostly due to the Sin city people going over there to shop (was closer than Winn Dixie at Arlington Rd and Atlantic.) When people started getting run over, instead of putting a foot bridge over to the shopping center, they ran a fence and bushes down the ENTIRE EXPRESSWAY from the matthews to Regency mall.

The shopping center dried up quickly thereafter. It was a damn shame. They probably spent more on the fencing and bushes than it would have taken to build a foot bridge over the expressway. But the Arlingwood types threw a fit because they didn't like the idea of the Sin City filth being in their neighborhood.

I guess I was trying to work in some clever analogy to remind city leaders to heed the mistakes of the past. But eh... you know how that goes. (Ex-sin city filth here.)

Are they violating the noise ordinance?

There are plenty of holes in that fence.  I almost hit a guy last year staggering out of the bushes trying to get across the expressway to the BP.  I nearly flipped my car swerving to keep from hitting him.

You know i need to look into that? Put in a complaint with the police non-emergency line, see what they say. It funny because last night i didn't here a thing.
