If you are not one of the more than 50% of Jacksonvillians who are our public service employees such as those employed by the military, the postal service, firefighters, police etc, you have much to worry about in terms of health insurance.

If you work for private enterprise, it's entirely the luck of the draw whether you have decent healthcare coverage.

If you are self-employed or work part-time only, you are out of luck altogether.

So, lets see how many locals need the use of collection jars to take care of their loved ones' life or death healthcare needs.

Of course you know how I feel about the mosr prosperous country in the world having their citizens BEG for healthcare through the use of collection jars.

While it may make us feel good about dropping in our spare change.............has it ever occurred to people how desperate these patients and their families are?

OK, so here is the one I saw locally at Just Fitness on San Jose

Brandon Newton (23), suffering from a blood cancer.

Have you seen others around town? I'm sure you have.

What happened to the Right to LIfe, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness for these people?

Or are we all about "I got mine, you get yours"

The kind of people who want to live in a "dog eat dog" world, without the type of safety nets that are characteristic of western CIVILIZED societies, but were never fully developed in the US and are now even under attack like Medicare?
In a society governed passively by free markets and free elections, organized greed always defeats disorganized democracy.
Basic American bi-partisan tradition: Dwight Eisenhower and Harry Truman were honorary chairmen of Planned Parenthood
