Wayne Weaver announces he is endorsing Mike Hogan for Mayor

Delores endorsement will weigh more than Mr Weavers. Alvin will be as big a supporter of the Jacguars as anyone, win or lose. The political phenonema occurring now is those republicans disenchanted with the tea party's control of their party. They've been effected by the events all across the country and here at home with gov. Scott. Demonstrated here in these posters and everywhere in the city, particularly those younger to (suprisingly) middle aged voters. And seen yesterday by Dolores's powerful endorsement. Am i right to feel that her endorsement had a bit more passion than Waynes?

Shelton did get it right yesterday.

Its time to vote for qualified candidates, stop cowtowing to alleged republican wins, and vote in people with more braincells than good old boys.

Shelton got it quite right.

This statement begs a question which I am sincere when asking.  We did have some very good Democrat candidates in November in Alex Sink and Deborah Gianolis.  Both of these fine ladies lost after running excellent campaigns.  They lost.  Why?  The question is...why?

Audrey Moran went everywhere she was asked to go.  Spoke to all who approached her.  Said all the "right" things that people long to hear, ie "it's not about party locally".  She strove to be honest about her take on pensions and taxes.  She was the ideal candidate everyone aspires to and she lost, infact came in third place.  So what happened?  The truth of it is that good candidates do step forward, creative and edgy personalities like Shelton step up to the plate and lose.  Running for political office is extrememly exhausting and your personal life, words and actions are all scruitinized at every turn.  Your words become exactly what some want to hear but the polar opposite of what others see as ideal.  What is the incentive for most to step into the confusing and convoluted world of politics?  It seems to me that this goes much deeper than folks stepping up to run for office.  It comes down to the support and funding a candidate can depend on getting.  It's the support or lack there of that makes the difference in my view.

QuoteIm sorry Diane, but I spoke with the Weavers as they were leaving Audrey's election night, and there is no way that there is any enthusiasm in this 'endorsement'.

So Stephen, when someone makes a statement to you, they are not allowed to change their mind? The night of the election was emotions talking. WW gets it, and realizes he needs help from the mayor's office as he had many issues he had to discuss and get agreement from Peyton.

He's a smart businessman, and I believe there is enthusiasm in Mr. Weaver for doing what is in the best interest of Jacksonville. And, oh yeah, he has enough money to where he can change his mind, whenever he pleases!!!

QuoteReally?  What did he tell you personally about that Mtrain?

Through his actions, but apparently you cannot see them. I am glad he came out for Hogan, and I can't wait for Hogan to win to see the board just implode.

Typical of you, M-train.  Negative Negative Negative.   I hope if Hogan wins you live to REGRET voting for him.  But then someone like yourself would NEVER admit they are wrong

Whatever Hogan and Mr. Weaver discussed, I wish they would share with the rest of the voters, because all I've read are Tea Party talking points thus far.

I doubt Weaver was 'satisfied' with that alone.

So then, nothing.  Which I suspected from the first.

People can and do change their minds.  But this is simply a business precaution.  The money poured into the Moran camp will not come from this endorsement, and you know that as well as I do.

And the board will not 'implode'.  Hogan's fiscal conservatism dovetails nicely with most of our recomendations and ideas.  If Hogan truly governs as a conservative, then there are a whole set of goals that can be accomplished together.

The way I see it, if the goal is to make Jacksonville a busy prosperous and dynamic city with a high quality of life and a strong economy then there is a very long laundry list of things that have to be done in order to reach that goal.

Sadly there is a partisan divide which makes it unlikely that one group of people can do all of those things, some of them are conservative, some of them are liberal.

But that doesnt mean that they don't need to be done.

If the conservative wins, then we can work on the conservative list.

If the liberal wins, then we can work from that list.

It happens to be my opinion that the greater national economy and the idiot occupying the governor's mansion make it very important to elect the least tea party like of the candidates, but I did not think that the world would end with the mayoral win of John Peyton.

True he was every bit as ineffective as we feared publicly that he would be, but we still managed to get some solid accomplishments during his administration.

The problem that I have with Hogan isnt so much Mike Hogan (as Ive said multiple times, hes a decent, kind and honorable guy) its the gang of people that will come into office with him.

Who is he going to appoint to the JEA and JTA boards, for example?  That is a HUGE consideration.

But if Hogan wins, I will endeavor to be the first blogger to congratulate him, and will offer any aid and help that I can to enable him to do good things for the city of Jacksonville.

Im sure most people on this forum feel the same way.

What is in that list of things that can be done if a truly conservative mayor is elected?  It would be neat to see an article on "Things We Need That Hogan Can Get Done"  and "Things We Need That Brown Can Get Done".

It used to make me unhappy tofu until I realized what the ongoing dynamics of this city are.  Shelton got it right in his essay yesterday.

not quite Timkin...mtrain's slogan says it all "is it 2011 yet"...after all he voted for Peyton...

as such I fully expect him to be saying "is it 2015 yet" shortly after Hogan recants on his no new taxes pledge

Timkin

Either way, I wish he would leave this discussion.
