QuoteThis goes out to prove that MetroJacksonville is one of the strongest force of natures to lead Jacksonville to a bright future with common sense and realistic goals.

Whoa dude.  I love metrojax too, but that might be a bit much.

Great news!  Thanks Stephen and MetroJacksonville!   :D

LOL, I got confused with this thread thinking that the Main Library on Laura St was getting the liquor license. This thread should read 'The Old Haydon Burns Library (on Ocean Street) finally making progress'.

...why did this have to be posted on April 1st?

Especially since the new public library does have entrances on Main Street, and the other one is on Ocean Street.

So does this mean it is a done deal that Monroe will be closed or is city council still wanting it rebuilt?

It is not a done deal - Monroe St. that is.  The City Council's Transportation Committee takes it up next Monday, April 4 at 2 p.m.  It then goes to the full Council.

This CANNOT be emphasized enough.  Anyone reading this needs to stop posting on this forum and call and write your council members on this issue, RIGHT NOW.

The Haydon Burns does not have the required tenants to get financing at this point.  The liquor license exemption passed yesterday was encouraging... but they are a ways off from breaking ground.

QuoteI hate how they refer to metrojax as a blog still.  It's not a blog.  It is a news website.  There's more accurate reporting here than the majority of local news sites.

Wow, did anyone see the misprint in the Times Union Sports Section, page C-7, where they spelled DEEFENSE?

Where would citizens be without this?
And, that $115 will save Jacksonville from financial ruin. - Mayor John Peyton

So what else is in works for the Haydon Burns space? The bowling alley / lounge, an IT company that does something with mobile internet solutions... Anything else that's been openly disclosed? I do like the idea of the bowling alley / lounge. It will be nice to have something somewhat different downtown rather than the normal bars / clubs, though I would like to see more of those too :)
