Who do you think is capable of taking Jacksonville to the next level. Alvin or mike??

tufsu1

sadly Matt...I'm fearful that neither can.....Audrey was far and away the person to do it.

That said, Alvin has the potential of chanmging the political power game...if he can get some big-money people and businesses to publicly support him, it might work...and then, if elected, he has a CHANCE to move Jacksonville forward.

The only thing I know about Alvin right now is that he is not Hogan and that may be enough to get my vote.  However, that is not enough for me to go out campaigning for him.  I plan on reaching out to his campaign to see if I can get a few minutes with him to talk about some of the issues in the same way that I did with Audrey.

And I'm only really worried about Mike because I feel that his 'do-nothing' style will open the door for some of his key supporters to run rampant.  If I had a better sense that he will be able to stand up to the people who helped elect him, I wouldn't be quite as concerned.

Mike is purely from the right wing republican part of this city and he'll probably do nothing to change a thing...same ole same ole....he could'nt even be bothered to show up to town meetings?...looks like a do nothing rightwing kissass and he'll not have my vote..

I'm not sure if that is accurate.

I think Mike might be more independent than GG seems to suggest, however I do believe he is an ideologue.

Look for Tea Party Austerity under a Hogan administration. I hope he isn't a political profiteer or a puppet.

The Prince of Persia era is ending, and I hope it stays ended.

Googling Brown to learn more. Any insider dirt/praise would be appreciated.

Independent my ass....that's the last thing i think of when i hear his name. I hear..."defund the city..lower tax rates for the wealthy...take away any rights of teachers and hell i would'nt put it past him to make abortions illegal within the city boarders." He's a FBC member and that's enough for me to run from him as fast as possible.

I like Mike. And Matt I've got that letter that you wrote to me years ago when the OFWB was an issue. I'll try and dig it out. In the meantime how would you like to paddle Hogans Creek next week? Tides are perfect in the morning would Wend. Thurs. Fri. work for you? I'd welcome the opportunity to spend an hour with you on the water. I hope we can make it happen. I know I do.

Well, Noone, I hope the current Council splits the Pier from the rest of the Shipyards land and funds the park, because, I fear that if Hogan wins, he will sell off the entire parcel.

Hogan's top four issues on his website seem to indicate he does not know what the Mayor's job is.  Taxes, Second Amendment, Illegal Immigration and Sanctity of life.  I think put his veiws on major notional issues out there for the public is fine however read his issues section. These are his top four he believe the mayor needs to fight for. I believe we can be confident that taking Jacksonville to the next level is not even what Mr. Hogan is striving for.  Contrast Mike's site with Alvin's. The first step has to be an understanding of what needs to be done.

A large number of metjax posters were less informed on Alvins view than myself, as i was behind Alvins campaign from early on, (which means little, if  anything.)
Matt, i was struck immediately by Alvins experience in the Clinton administrations job program. While cutting deficit spending is a priority, Im convinced that the best single thing for Jax is jobs, which personally touches me as my brother has been unemployed for almost 2 years. And so many of my friends.
The next two months will show a national trend towards a rejection of republican spending cuts, which will squarely be aimed at education and middle/lower class workers. It will be up to Alvin and local democrats to imply that these same cuts, endorsed overwhelmingly by Hogan, are just as detrimental to Jacksonville as the rest of the country.
I find it particlarly ironic how we can expect no financial help from multi billion $$$ corps as GE, as posted here via an excellent NYtimes link.
Hogan= even worst public education, quality of life for middle low income.
Brown= Emphasis on education (his experience at JU), higher quality of life for middle/low income (his experience in job growth)

Yes truth.... the tip of the iceberg. On Hogan.
Also credit Brown for, what many MetroJaxers agree, getting his supporters out to vote in a large number, while many republican supporters were flat out apathetic.
Theres every reason to believe the Brown campaign will roll on with that success.

Brown was handshaking at RAM yesterday.

He said everything that I wanted to hear.

Based on where he was and what he said, Brown seems to be courting support from planner and preservation types.

I was in a meeting yesterday with Mr. Brown's campaign manager and other top aides.  I was part of a large group of Audrey supporters who gathered to learn more about Mr. Brown and how we can help.  My questions were answered; Mr. Brown has the experience and vision that we need to take Jacksonville to the next level (unlike the regressive Hogan who might toe the line, but I believe would take us backward).

So, there's just no mistake about it: Audrey supporters who are looking for the candidate who best embodies what she was trying to achieve, look no further than Alvin Brown.  He has my complete and total support.  I'm with Alvin.

We cannot afford anymore backwards

Alvin Brown isn't Mike Hogan, so I'll be voting for him.  I hope I can learn more about him though.

He'd make a great pastor in Live Oak.  Mayor in Jax?  Not so much.  Alvin Brown needs to make his campaign about one thing, JOBS, JOBS, JOBS. (same thing Audrey should've hammered more and would've gotten her in the run-off in my estimation)  That should be his campaign's mission in life, to show how Alvin Brown will help improve employment conditions here in Jax.  Square that with Hogan joking about bombing abortion clinics and he can take the moderates and maybe just maybe, win this thing.
