Partner and I finally had the chance to stop by the Derby-Q (on Park Street in the thick of Five Ponts )last Saturday after RAM--what a pleasant meal! Really enjoyed sitting out on the Derby dog-friendly deck, watching the neighborhood go by while we ate...We had the Pork Sandwich Plate. Meat was lean, well smoked, and good size portion. The smoker was going while we were there...Slaw was fresh, and not loaded up with mayo. Baked beans, unsweet tea--all excellent. Prices are low. Good place to stop for quick lunch or lite dinner.

Yes - old newsstand.  Is the only seating the Derby's deck?  Or are there any inside seats?

I would have to agree that the couple of times I've tried the barbeque, it is very good.  It is perfect for a quick meal on the walk home from (or to) Birdies or Underbelly.  I'm not even a big bbq fan, but the times I've had it, it made me want to come back again.  Generous portions and great street food to keep you out drinking til late!  Especially the pulled pork sandwich.

You can go inside the Derby House and order too during their open hours.  Roy is rightly proud of his BBQ and the ladies, Gloria, Micki, and Nita serve the same slaw and tea inside.  Good folk, all.
When all else fails hug the dog.

I concur the BBQ is top notch.  Ribs are fall of the bone perfection.  It's a must try.

Odd...except for a few people sitting on the porch, never seen someone get within 5 feet of the counter. Never really even seen food leave the place, and I live a block down....

Good news though! Smells great. Good addition to the area as well.

You may not see the "food leave the counter". You oder @ the counter and go sit on the deck to wait. The staff leave the little kiosk by a side door and go to the Derby kitchen to bring the food out, and they bring it out all covered up to code, very top notch for a litttle hole in street place... What you are looking at from the street is not a kitchen-they just take the orders there. You really need to try them out!
