So I guess the feeling here is that I should not spend all the family's money on drunken benders and shopping sprees yet.

^^^^You make a valid point. Me and friends were dicussing this the other day (we are all Christians BTW). You just have to take it for what its worth. So much of the bible has came to past already, so I believe the bible over a physical person anyday.

I am an agnostic, but I truly admire and applaud your open-mindness and strong faith. Don't ever let anyone take your faith away from you.

-Josh

Why do we applaud people for "openmindness and strong faith"!!!! Faith, by definition, is believing something that doesn't exist by empirical evaluation or natural law. Faith breeds ignorance. Also interesting everyone here that professes such faith professes it to the Christian God. The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully. Who the hell would want to have faith in that...
And to think we praise it and call it open-mindness....pfui.

Faith means not wanting to know what is true. â€" Friedrich Nietzsche

In Christianity neither morality nor religion come into contact with reality at any point. â€" Friedrich Nietzsche

What can be asserted without proof can be dismissed without proof.  â€" Christopher Hitchens

Let me rephrase what I said to Duvaldude...

I was saying that Duvaldude, NOT everyone else, was nice enough to understand my post without attacking back or defending his faith to a certain point. The post is directly at one and only person. Your response implies that my post was directed at EVERYONE in that department. I do respect and get your points, and do agree, but I must maintain my civility and respect for everyone else on this board.

Holy Mackerel!

Yo, Ben... I know how you feel.

Sometimes it's just best to admit you stuck your foot in your mouth and apologize.

I'm a veteran of this move, although I most likely maintain a negative balance in this regard.

Crunch time is coming for The End, so this threadsie needs a bumpsie.

Stock up on your canned goods, folks.

What else is there to spend money on?  :)

Wonder what these people think when it doesn't happen?  "Hmmm, guess God changed his mind again." :)

Timkin

That seems reasonable , Jason ;)

Incidentally, have you seen the revisions and resulting contradictions in the work of Stephen Hawkings, going back to the very beginning of his career?

Yep! I just read his latest book, The Grand Design. It is pretty much of a book that saying "F*** off!" to any religions. Stephen Hawkings and his heart has gone cold. I think I know why.... the last divorce of his ex-wife pushed him to the edge.

So, you believe atheists have "cold hearts"?

I saw one of the Harold Camping followers in Wal Mart this past Saturday.  He had the t shirt and ball cap trumpeting the rapture on 21 May 2011 the  He was buying a cell phone.

I asked him if he was able to get a 6 week contract from AT&T or not.  He looked at me in a kind of pissy way, so I said may God bless you and walked away.
