At church this morning we prayed for those that were caught up in the prophesy of Mr Camping

This must come as a shock to all those people who thought they were living up to the WORD. Obviously, since there was no rapture, there are no worthy people to populate heaven at this time. Looks like we all have to try harder or be stuck on our round ball waiting the next roll of the cosmic dice.

Ralph, something in what you said there made me afraid... and not for the reasons you might think.

I'm afraid that, being the non-believer I am, that my in-laws will become a tad more aggressive in attempting to convert my little boy.

I agree with Timkin. You are the boys mom and should be the one to oversee his upbringing. He will, eventually, make up his own mind, much as you did.

I would be tempted to say to the in-laws something like this: "It's obvious to me that as much as you do believe and attempt to lead your lives accordingly you must have somehow fallen short. It must be terrible to know that you  were not one of the chosen at this time, and I certainly cannot allow you to influence my son with ideas which, on the face of it, are so wrong and have not been beneficial to you."

I, however, don't have to live with or near your in-laws.
