I know on Gilmore it's on Friday.  Don't know why 5 points would be different.

Please note below from the COJ.net website.  Guess the city doesn't provide bins any more.

Curbside Recycling
Single-family residents can recycle all of these items curbside in their blue bin*:

Plastic food, beverage, detergent bottles and jugs with narrow necks and screw-on tops that are labeled with a
or    .  Labels do not need to be removed.
(Please place tops/lids in garbage; no butter tubs or similar items)
Glass bottles and jars (green, brown, and clear; please place tops/lids in garbage; labels do not need to be removed)
Metal and aluminum cans
Newspapers and inserts (on rainy days, please hold until next collection day)
Magazines, catalogs & telephone books
Brown paper bags (can also be used to hold excess recyclables)
Corrugated cardboard (flattened and cut in pieces 2' by 3' or smaller)
No plastic bags, milk cartons, or juice boxes
No motor oil, pool chemical, pesticide or fertilizer bottles
No shredded paper
*Note:
The city no longer provides blue plastic bins.  If you do not have blue plastic bins residents can use paper bags or other comparably sized plastic bins for their recyclables. The city issued blue bins were 18 gallon containers measuring at 15" wide by 22" long and 15" deep. No "tall" recycle bins can be used since the collection employee has to separate material prior to it being put in the truck. The bins can be any color. (No plastic bags, please.)

It's Friday.  The city no longer provides blue bins so you have to provide your own container.

They take most of the "recycling" to the dump anyway.

Go to the Dollar store and pick up a laundry basket or two... they work well.
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

I don't think this is true.  Can you provide any backup information on this?

Friday it is! Thx

I wonder if I can just use my old paper bags from Publix/Whole Foods as make-shift bins...

You can... but you are setting yourself up for a mess.  When the bag breaks(and it will) the collector is not gonna scramble around and pick up what dumped on the ground.  Best to just get a plastic bin of some sort.

I can.

I carefully cut cardboard boxes we had been saving for years - just in case we needed a box  - into sizes that would fit into boxes about 16"x 20". Had 6 boxes. Placed them at the curb on recycle day and taped a plastic bag, from the city, that had the recycle symbol printed on it, right on the top of the pile where it was HIGHLY visible. Also printed RECYCLE in large letters on the rest of the boxes.

Regular trash pickup truck got there first and took every one of them to the landfill.

I use paper bags right from Publix/Winn Dixie and have never had a problem.  Friday morning I take them out to the curb and the recycling guys are usually there around 7:30AM.  If its raining that day, I just keep the bags inside until the next week.  Never had any problems doing it that way since someone decided to steal my recylcing bin in the summer of '08.

Interesting article.  It mentions the City will rebid the contract end of year (which would have been end of 2010.)  Wonder where that stands.

Looks to me like they are recycling most materials collected...
