It's time to get organized on the Light Rail Front, and perhaps the activist and preservationist fronts as well, I am ready to see a 501-C3 formed, and am willing to sign the papers and make it happen...

LET'S WAKE UP JACKSONVILLE!

Is there an attorney or two willing to provide the incorporation services?

Is there a CPA will to provide the 501-C-3 services?

I've done this before as a Citizen and have documents we could work from!!  HELP THIS BECOME REAL!

Contact Ocklawaha via PM at this site.

Is this our future, or our past, It's time to bring back the glory of 1933!

I am an attorney and a CPA, and would be happy to help.  However, in order to qualify as tax exempt, the organization must have as its primary purpose education and not political activities.  Also bear in mind that the time it takes for the IRS to issue a determination letter to a newly formed nonprofit organization can be 6 months to a year.

Thanks Traveler, Yes, I'm aware of the time limits and the political requirements. I've done this maybe 10 times in my life, starting groups, museums etc... to go after preservation or historic interests.

My thoughts are:

We form LIGHT RAIL JACKSONVILLE, INC. as an educational group to educate, study and promote the use of rail transit in North East Florida, or other locations as the Board may deem desirable.

As a Library Company, in regards to it's membership and the public in the collection and retention of historical records and photos of rail travel in the Southeast, with emphasis on transit and streetcars.

As a benevolent organization, to assist disadvantaged citizens needing mass transit, transit adaption and other aid and assistance as might be rendered by said corporation. Also in regards to it's membership, wherein the said corporation may pool it's resources to assist various members in research, restoration and transit adaptations.

As a Museum Corporation, in order to collect, catalog and preserve all manner of Transit and Rail Equipment, vehicles, studies, maps etc.

As a Property Management Corporation, with regards to the betterment of Transportation for the citizens of Jacksonville, the display of museum related items and the operations thereof.

As a Public Utility, wherever said operation would effect the physical plant of its museum, railroad or equipment and that excess power generation by said corporation would be resold to JEA or subsequent public utility in accordance with existing public law.

As a Citizens advisory forum, independent of any political, religious or ethnic body, to further the cause of fixed guide-way Transportation within the City of Jacksonville, State of Florida, United States or the America's.

As a benevolent, charitable, development network, to assist those in under developed Countries, with studies, engineering, drawings, plans and implementation of Mass Transit systems.

As a Not-For-Profit broker of railroad and transit equipment, when such purchases, exchanges or trades may enhance the preservation of endangered historic articles and further the causes of the corporation set forth in this document.
