Is there an established point for the end (or start ) of Hogans Creek?

When is the next one?

ditto

Not Sure.  For me personally, I can only do next Saturday.  If people are willing to do it on a Sunday, I can do March 13th or 27th.  My next free Saturday after next week is April 2nd.

We need to build some consensus to see when people are available. I'd be happy to go out with whoever for a couple hours next Saturday.  We could do more exploring than cleaning if you're not in the working mood.

From what I can tell, it looks to start at 8th and Jefferson.  The first Klutho bridge is at 6th or 5th Street.  The creek ends at the St Johns at Bay St just past the Maxwell house.  The area that is most accessible for cleaning is between Beaver and Duval.

In other positive forward leanings recall City of Jacksonville Tributary Assessment Dana Morton notes water quality improvement trend for Hogans Creek.

Mike Hollingsworth reports his own recent review of the Creek, something to do with JU,including critter sampling via net (don't 'ya just love these guys!!) which revealed pollution intolerant critters- a good sign.

Mike also notes attention from the EPA Earth Justice program. Google various EPA/Hogans Creek.

cleaner than the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, certainly....

next Saturday like 2 days from today, or next Saturday like 9 days from today? I'm available most Sat/Sun mornings. Its the waking up that's trouble.

Lucasjj

I am available to help again. I will not be in town this coming weekend, but I am game on the 26th.

Captain Zissou

I was thinking 9 days from now.  I've got a few things to get out of the way this (2 days) saturday.

I'm thinking about April 2nd for a huge clean up and also a sprucing up of Noone's launch.  Matt from River Ocean was proposing that we have a beautification day with some plants, shrubs, trash cans etc....

The clean ups can obviously go one without me there, but I do enjoy being a part of them.

March 12th, next BIG cleanup.  Mark your calenders.
BIG event with the potential of some important guests showing up.

Let's make it happen on the 12th guys/gals!!!!!

I'm in Tampa next weekend, but if you guys are serious about some tree planting, next Saturday Greenscape is holding their annual flowering tree sale at 7AM.  I'm having a buddy pick me up a few of the 10 gallons in my absence.  PM me and let's coordinate some efforts.  I'd like to donate a few that could be planted along the Springfield park portion of the beltway.  We're going to have to coordinate with some agencies/organizations to do so.

I'm going to see about gathering a few of you Sunday the 6th to get some of the waterborne cleanup knocked out.

Captain Zissou

Field, you do know that the 12th is River Run day right??  I'll help, but I'm not going to be very mobile.

Lucasjj

I can't do the 12th, that is the day of the Gate River Run. I will keep up with with all that is going on and help out again when I can.

I'm going to be involved with the River run so I can't make that day. But March 19 is the River Celebration and Hogans Creek will be a site. I'm working with Vivian Harrell and there may be two dump locations for this one. This is a city wide cleanup and Hogans Creek will not be a posted site. Primary reason is a safety concern. It will be for your die hard river and creek cleaners. Participants will receive a T shirt and participate in the festivities at RAM.

In the meantime Capt. If you want to do a low impact clean and just paddle the creek lets set up a time and do it. Its a huge city council and Mayoral campaign issue. Anyone else just let me know. We'll make it happen.

fieldafm

Freaking aye, my bad guys... I had the 5th marked down as the River Run.  Turns out I was supposed to write 'opening of RAM' on the 5th and 'River Run' on the 12th but got them the other way around.
Geeze I'm SO stupid!!!  Freaking dislexia!

Ok, the 5th... let's do it!  Write it down... in pen.

I'm going to hit up the St Johns Riverkeeper event @ Bold City on Monday and try to get some formal things set up for Hogans with SJRK.  Capt if you want to join, let me know!  That is if you can tear yourself away from that 'other' brewery across the street for a day.

Noone, totally forgot to return your call the other day buddy.  Give me a call back!
I want to talk to you about your contact at the Parks Dept re: tree donations/planting.

Captain Zissou

Channel 4 is willing to do a story on the clean up any day we're out there.  Since my next real availability is April 2nd, I put that date down as a possibility.

Field, I'd be down to do a little advocating at Bold City, but I might have to bring a flask of intuition.

Noone, PeeJay and I are down for a little paddle and clean up next Saturday if the tides are right.  How many kayaks do you have??

Noone

March 5TH, What a day to Make It Happen. High tide is at 10:30 lets do it from 9-11 and just break out the watercraft. Ideal conditions for everyone in the city especially for anyone running in the Spring elections. You will be just 17 days out.

March 19th is the city wide River Celebration and the get together after the cleanup will be at RAM this year. The cleanup and fun day on the water March 5Th for those who want to see Hogans Creek happen what an opportunity.

I'll contact Wayne Wood with RAM and I hope he wears his Boy Scout hat. I'll wear my RAM tshirt.

Someone needs to contact the Jacksonville Civic Council Creek Committee.

I'll contact Vivian Harrell with Keep Jacksonville Beautiful she had wanted to identify a second location and with the high tide and potential for a total watercraft cleanup option a location under an FDOT structure may be the ticket.

Ricker and the JMM this may be just what your talking about.

Also need to contact Jerry Spinks and Emily Lisska and anyone else interested in the history of Jacksonville.

Dan O'Byrne, Terry Lorrince, Tera Meeks, Paul Anderson with the JPA Paul you may want to bring a small barge for the garbage. (Just a little port humor, still looking forward to meeting you)

Hope whoever is running for Dist. 7 shows up.

Will also try and contact Dana Morton with the city. NM your right Dana is top shelf.

March 5Th another opportunity to meet and reunite with some awesome people who want to make a scene on our Waterway in our Downtown on our St. Johns River our American Heritage River.

Was at Hogans Creek today and noticed the brand new survey stakes. Someone is making it happen and sees the benefit of how Hogans Creek is a positive for Downtown.
