Non-RedNeck Westsider

Stopped in today because I saw a wall of beer taps through the window.....   Utter disappointment.  This place has so much potential, but seems to be scraping by with the like of, I don't know.  I will preface this by stating I was on a daydrinking mission.  So I popped in around 1:30, and was semi-excited when I walked in the door.

First thing that I saw from the sidewalk was a row of taps (ended up being 33 total), then I saw a pool table, some stand up video games (golden tee or bowling i assumed) and once I stepped through the door, even before my eyes adjusted to the light, I saw 2 hard-point dart boards.

Once I sat down at the bar and took notice (my pupils had since dilated to the appropriate circumference) I saw many of the taps (14) out of stock, the video games were from the early 90's (not in a good way) and the lanes to the dart boards were full of tables.

The beer selection was mediocre from what I was expecting, and the pool table didn't work very well - no table chalk, no hand chalk, the balls stuck in the table and it was $1 per game.  I ordered some food and wouldn't recommend anyone going just for that either.  What's the deal?   I need to try it out after-hours (after 9pm) to make a proper assessment, but what I saw this afternoon was highly lacking in several catagories.

Does anyone have some good words to add, because I don't have anything else?

I know the owners and like the place....they took what was Nicky G's and have gradually made it better over the last 2 years....being small business owners with limited capital, it taks time.

They recently moved the pizza oven so they could start creating a real bar....and their goal is to have over 100 taps

All I can say is 'potential.'  There's lots of it:  Space, Location, Concept.  Like I said before, I'm going to give them a shot after dark - I have a feeling it's a totally different place with a totally different vibe.

The Other thing that was not mentioned is the owners are there almost every hour of every day.  I just did a search and fortunately saw the post.  I'm sorry that the day you came in tap wall was a little light. it happens from time to time especially after a busy weekend.  Every day we work to make the place a little better and it has been a hard road.  Golden tee on the way, video games: personal Fav's purchased out of pocket, Darts: at lunch.... I'm not sure that would be very safe but I'm game and still undefeated any buying a beer to anyone who can beat me.  Taps are at 38 (7 Locals 2 Tampa 1 Gainsville) and have room at add on another 12 and right after that..... 50 which will put us at 100 taps.  We are all for any sort of request or constructive comments any time any day of the week.    :)  After 2 1/2 years of slowly building the shop into my own its my pleasure to have a pint with ya and of course dominate on my dart boards.  Thanks for the comments if you have any more or any questions hit me up in email at kriskiger@yahoo.com
