Way to focus on REAL issues effecting OUR city.

I have a feeling, more talk about Obama and the encroachment of federal government is going to muddy up the mayoral election waters real soon.  What a crying shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF does Obama, Charlie Crist and Jeb Bush have to do with the City of Jacksonville?????

How about leading JACKSONVILLE forward with bold leadership and even bolder ideas?

QuoteAn upstart in the race to become Jacksonville's next mayor has launched attacks on Gov. Rick Scott and former Gov. Jeb Bush in an effort to raise money to fund his candidacy.

Warren Lee, a Democrat who is an officer with the Department of Juvenile Justice, trails far behind the leading candidates in fundraising, but he's hoping a social media campaign might partially change that.

"Help me stop GOP Rick Scott & Jeb Bush mission is to keep Fl away from @BarackObama as mayor I stop them I need $55k," Lee tweeted on Thursday morning.

It's an interesting strategy in a county (all Duval County residents cast ballots in the mayor's race) that Scott won. It was tight, yes, but he managed to top 50 percent, something he wasn't able to do statewide. The attack on Bush is even more intruiging. The last time he was on a ballot in Jacksonville, during his 2002 re-election campaign, he won 61.30 percent of the vote against Bill McBride.

Lee also mentions re-electing President Barack Obama as one of his areas of focus should he win. Obama surprised many in 2008 when he finished within two points of Sen. John McCain in Duval County, pulling in 48.63 percent of the vote.

Lee, who finds himself competing for Democratic votes with Alvin Brown, a fellow Democrat, and Audrey Moran, a Republican who has worked to win support from Democrats, seems to believe the appeal to Democratic purists might set him apart. He's set a target of $55,000 in the next 30 days, which is significantly more than he's raised so far in the race. We'll keep an eye on him and see if he hits his target.

It's an odd tweet.  Doesn't really make any sense, really.  I wouldn't worry about it much though.  While Lee managed to qualify by petition, he isn't really a player in the mayor's race.  More of just a sideshow.

Yes, but if the message gets skewed... the conversation turns away from the real issues.  That is the crux of the problem.  I have a very real feeling, the conversation will be taking this very same turn in February.  We as a community will all be weakened b/c of it.  Certain players in the latest city budget debate debacle will be at the forefront of this election very soon, I assure you.  And their message is not productive.

My first impulse is to write off Warren Lee as a less-than-serious candidate.  I, however, then think about folks routinely complain about how there are not enough choices on the ballot. I still have fear that a hack for the good-old-boy system will manage to win because progressives and moderates fail to unite behind a decent candidate...
